AT&T’s Nokia Lumia 900 To Receive WP7.8 Update 30th January

While we’re sure many Windows 7.x owners are bummed that they are missing out on Windows Phone 8, hopefully Windows Phone 7.8 will be a good enough update to tide you guys over until you get a new phone. Now we know that Windows Phone 7.8 is currently sitting on the AT&T servers waiting to be pushed out, but when exactly will that be taking place? Well according to the folks at Windows Phone Central, they have learn via an leaked internal AT&T email that the Windows Phone 7.8 update is expected to begin rolling out to Lumia 900 devices come 30th of January which apparently is a day earlier than expected. The changelog of the update can be found on WPCentral’s website (source link below), but if you’d rather skip on the reading, you might be interested in checking out the video above by the folks at WMExperts, who have managed to install Windows Phone 7.8 on the Lumia 9200 and have put together a walk-through on some of the changes you can expect.

HTC Mozart Will Be Getting Windows Phone 7.8 Update Towards The End Of February/March

htc 7 mozart HTC Mozart Will Be Getting Windows Phone 7.8 Update Towards The End Of February/MarchWe’re sure that first-gen Windows Phone owners are a bit bummed that their phones won’t be updated to Windows Phone 8, but rather Windows Phone 7.8 instead, but then it’s better than nothing, right? Anyway according to a post by HTC (via Windows-Phone.pl), it seems that the company’s first-gen Windows Phone, the HTC Mozart, will actually be receiving the Windows Phone 7.8 update towards the end of February or early March! We’re not sure who might still be holding onto devices like the HTC Mozart, but in case you are or you know someone that still uses it on a daily basis, this sounds like pretty good news.

However it should be noted that the post from HTC was translated into English so there might have been some details lost in the translation, because according to the post, this is what HTC had to say, “As of today, the HTC 7 Mozart smartphone is the only one for which it was confirmed by providing updated Windows Phone 7.8.” It almost sounds like the Mozart will be the only phone from HTC receiving the 7.8 update, making us wondering if the HD7 or Titan will be left out, or like we said, something might have gotten lost in the translation process. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info, so check back with us later for more details!

Windows Phone 7.8 SDK Update Now Available

windows phone 7 8 new features 0 Windows Phone 7.8 SDK Update Now AvailableMicrosoft has just released a Windows Phone SDK update for Windows Phone 7.8. It’s basically an optional update that brings two new Windows Phone 7.8 emulator images to the already existing SDK installation. This is good news for developers as the two images should enable them to fully test how their Windows Phone 7.5 app’s Live Tiles will look and behave when they are running on a device running Windows Phone 7.8. AT&T Lumia 900 Windows Phone 7.8 Update Parked On Nokia’s Servers

lumia 900 78 AT&T Lumia 900 Windows Phone 7.8 Update Parked On Nokia’s ServersIt did not take too long after the announcement by Microsoft concerning the availability of the Windows Phone 7.8 SDK (software development kit) for AT&T to follow up that they have the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the Lumia 900 – although it is right now waiting for the command to bolt out of Nokia’s server doors. Listed on Nokia’s servers for the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the Lumia 900 include all color variants of the smartphone, and have been labeled with the 8858 OS build number.

This is good news for Lumia 900 owners, considering how that proved to be one of the higher profile Nokia devices in the past year (before the Lumia 920 was released, of course). Not only that, spotting the updates ready and waiting in the wings would mean that the chances of other AT&T devices getting said update would also be sooner rather than later. A little bit more patience, my young padawan, and you should see your beloved Nokia Lumia 900 jiving with the best that Windows Phone 7.8 is able to offer.

Windows Phone 7.8 update landing on January 31

Those of you who have been waiting for the long-rumored Windows Phone 7.8 update to arrive have been given a reason to smile, as its roll out has seemingly confirmed for later this month. Windows Phone Colombia spilled the beans in a post to its Facebook page, saying that phones running Windows Phone 7.5 should be getting the update to 7.8 starting on January 31. That’s a little more than a week away, so hopefully what we’re hearing from Windows Phone Colombia is accurate.

However, the roll out may be set to begin on January 31, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be getting it then. The Facebook post says the roll out will continue throughout Q1 2013, so it could be days or possibly even weeks before it arrives on your handset. Keep in mind too that Microsoft hasn’t made a formal announcement yet, so the date we’re hearing from Windows Phone Colombia may be off.

Still, as WPCentral points out, a number of carriers around the world have suggest an end-of-January release for the Windows Phone 7.8 update. We’ve seen devices running the new version of the OS as well, so if it isn’t finished just yet, it’s at least very close. Microsoft previously gave the update a release window of Q1 2013, and considering all of the other evidence, January 31 could possibly be the date the Windows Phone 7.5 users of the world get updated to Windows Phone 7.8.

Windows Phone 7.8 is said to come with a number of new features, including Bluetooth file transfer, a new lock screen, and resizable live titles. It obviously won’t be as big as Windows Phone 8 – Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system – but it should do something to please Windows Phone users who are stuck on 7.5. Stay tuned, as we’ll have more information for you once it’s available.

Nokia Says Windows Phone 7.8 Update For Its Lumia Devices Is “Imminent”

Windows Phone 7.8 Leak on Nokia Lumia 800 1024x465 Nokia Says Windows Phone 7.8 Update For Its Lumia Devices Is ImminentAre you looking forward to Windows Phone 7.8? The update is almost bittersweet considering that Windows Phone 7.x owners would not be upgraded to Windows Phone 8, thus making the update seem more or less like the next best thing. Now if you’re looking forward to receiving the 7.8 update on your Nokia Lumia device, you could be in for a wait, although that wait is expected to be short. Speaking to PocketGamer.biz, Nokia revealed that the rollout of the Windows Phone 7.8 update for Nokia Lumia devices was “imminent”, but specific release dates were in the hands on Microsoft.

In a statement released by Nokia, “With Windows Phone 7.8 beginning to ship pre-loaded on Nokia Lumia smartphones, we will naturally be deploying the software to our factories for product rollout […] Microsoft announced that it is working closely with hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013.” Granted this isn’t the announcement of the update many have expected, but we guess good on Nokia for keeping their customers up-to-date on the, well, update.

Windows Phone 7.8 leaked for Lumia 510, 800, and 900

Windows Phone 7.8 (build 8858.12560) was leaked on Navifirm last night, making the upgrade available to Lumia 510, Lumia 800, and Lumia 900 users. This gives users quite a jump on the eventual official update, which isn’t slated to begin rolling out until “early 2013,” according to Microsoft. The update brings with it an ensemble of new features.

Screen-Shot-2012-12-14-at-11.25.23-AM

So far, those who have flashed their devices are reporting all the features we expected and hoped for, including resizable Live Tiles, a new boot screen, additional Accent colors, new Xbox, Office, and Store icons, Bluetooth sharing, two dozen lock screen backgrounds, and the ability to make Google your default search engine in Internet Explorer.

On November 28, Microsoft made this statement regarding the 7.8 upgrade. “We know you’re eager to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update, and we want you to know that we’re working closely with our hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013. As we work to quickly get this in the hands of our loyal users, we’re also striving to deliver a high-quality release and ensure a smooth transition for our widely expanded services.”

Users who have taken the plunge so far are stating good things, with few experiencing any issues or unexpected happenings. If you’re planning to upgrade your Lumia 510, 800, or 900 to Windows Phone 7.8, make sure you backup your data first. After you’re finished updating, don’t forget to leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Windows Phone 7.8 spotted on the Nokia Lumia 900

As some of you guys know by now, Microsoft has officially confirmed that the Windows Phone 7.8 update will only be making its way onto WP7.5 handsets come early 2013, somewhat of a bummer for WP7.5 owners especially since their devices will not be eligible for the update to WP8. Either way while a specific date of release has yet to be confirmed, a video was spotted recently where WP7.8 was seen running on the Nokia Lumia 900. The video is called a “quick preview” and it most certainly is that, basically giving us a quick rundown on how WP7.8 might look like running on WP7.5 devices. According to the uploader of the video, the version of WP7.8 running on the Lumia 900 is only the preview version of the software and it might not even be the final release. It’s not much to go on but we guess this is what WP7.5 users will have to contend with until more details are revealed, so if you’ve got a minute to spare, check out the video above.
