Alleged Windows Phone 8.1 Screenshot Leaked

Alleged Windows Phone 8.1 Screenshot LeakedWe’re sure there are many Windows Phone users out there who are looking forward to getting their hands on the Windows Phone 8.1 update, or at least looking forward to seeing new Windows Phone devices that will be supported by Windows Phone 8.1. While we have yet to see the official look of the update, Xero, who has been steadily leaking Windows Phone 8.1-related material for awhile now, has leaked a new screenshot (pictured above) that is allegedly that of the update. However Xero has warned that this screenshot could merely be a prototype/beta, and that the final product might look different, although we have to admit that we do like what we see.

The screenshot also reveals the Cortana voice assistant feature which is basically Microsoft’s answer to other voice assistant features from Apple and Google, and it is named after a character from Halo. Last we heard Cortana could be making a debut in the US first before making its way onto other markets which we’re guessing might have something to do with locality. Either way what do you guys make of this leaked screenshot? Like what you see so far?

Windows Phone 8.1 Will First Bring ‘Cortana’ Digital Assistant To The U.S. [Rumor]

Windows Phone 8.1 Will First Bring Cortana Digital Assistant To The U.S. [Rumor]

Microsoft is said to be working on its own digital voice assistant to rival Apple’s Siri. Internally, the assistant is said to be referred to as “Cortana,” which is actually a character from the Halo franchise. Rumor has it that Cortana is actually going to be an overhaul of Microsoft’s TellMe service, while offering the same voice interaction features that Siri does. There’s also chatter about Microsoft integrating the assistant into all of its major products, such as the Xbox and Windows OS devices. The assistant is expected to be released as an integral part of Windows Phone 8.1 update, which is due early next year.

Microsoft is currently testing the assistant internally on Windows Phone devices that are running the GDR3 update, which is expected to be released in the near future. It is said that GDR3 update won’t bring Cortana to Windows Phone 8 powered devices. Moreover, it is said that Cortana will initially only be available to users in the U.S. once Windows Phone 8.1 rolls out next year. Users outside the U.S. would reportedly have to wait until late 2014 to get the virtual assistant. While Cortana might only be the codename at this point in time, a petition urging Microsoft to opt it as the final branding for the assistant is already gaining steam.

Conceptual Animation Points To Possible Future Windows Phone 8.1 Design

Conceptual Animation Points To Possible Future Windows Phone 8.1 DesignIt goes without saying that Windows Phone 8.1 is more or less right around the corner, where we have seen that there were alleged leaked screenshots of the operating system before, and what you see above are screen captures of a possible Windows Phone 8.1 design. These images were made available thanks to a certain forum member who goes by the handle “qXerro”, where these screenshots remain to be verified as to whether they hail from the Windows Phone team, or were they expertly recreated in his spare time with the right kind of image editing software.

So far, the conceptual animation does seem to show off a fair number of actionable notifications, and not only that, it also shows just how swiping to the left will depict the ‘me’, quick share, settings, and personalize section. Let us take a quick poll now, what do you think of Windows Phone 8.1 so far? Will different animations be able to make the entire Windows Phone 8.1 experience a better one? If you were Microsoft, what would you do on your part to make sure that Windows Phone 8.1 works as intended? I know that it can get pretty difficult trying to please every one, and the situation does remind me of the Aesop’s fable which involves a father, son, and donkey.

    Windows Phone 8.1 Screen Spotted

Windows Phone 8.1 Screen SpottedSometime last week, we brought you word that Windows Phone 8 GDR3 was spotted on a handset which was purchased off Craigslist- a Nokia Lumia 920 to be exact. Not only that, we do know that Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia is also working on a “Bittersweet shimmer” update coming, and here we are with something that might just get your juices flowing – that is, an image of the Lumia 620 from Nokia that was spotted running on a copy of Windows Phone 8.1, now how about that?

The report that published the very same photo claimed that the image was discovered on a microSD memory card, and it does seem to depict a notifications center as well as a unified messaging inbox for both Skype and Messenger. Since the image was reportedly found on a random microSD memory card, one cannot draw the conclusion to prove anything else. It does boggle the mind, that major updates discovered on Craigslist and a microSD memory card that depicts the next build of Windows Phone happened so close before Apple unveiled its new iPhone range. Could it actually be some sort of covert operation or just plain luck? Only time will tell, but if it was cleverly planted news, then Nokia must have done a pretty good job.
