Samsung reportedly looking to Microsoft to lessen their dependency on Google’s Android
Posted in: Today's ChiliAssuming Samsung fails to appeal the court’s decision in their legal battle against Apple in the US, the Korean company will have to fork out a whopping $1 billion in damages. Perhaps looking to cut back on possible legal fees and to prevent further lawsuits from Apple, it has been reported (via Korea Times) that according to Samsung officials, the company is increasing the level of their partnership with Microsoft as a way to reduce their dependency on Google’s Android platform for their future success.
While Samsung has been known for plenty of products, its mobile devices like the Galaxy S-series have been considered to be some of the best, if not the best, Android devices out there, but what do you guys think? Is this possible and could the recently announced Windows Phone 8 Samsung ATIV S be a step in that direction?

Our old friend, the @evleaks Twitter account is back, claiming that it’s gotten the first official shots of Nokia’s Lumia 820 and 920 with Pureview. The terse tweets claim that the 820 is a 4.3-inch handset, while the 4.5-inch 920 will arrive with Nokia’s magical new imaging technology. We’re understandably skeptical, given the small size of the lens on the 920 (pictured, left) compared to the 808, but we can’t fault the feed’s track record for leaks so far.

Kid’s Corner uncovered for Windows Phone 8: a customizable, simplified launcher for rug rats
Posted in: Today's ChiliSo, if you don’t want your child messing up your smartphone, you can always snag a Mugtuk in hopes of scaring the crap out of them, but before you start inflicting emotional scars — and racking up psychologist bills — take a look at what the folks at Microsoft are cooking up for Windows Phone 8, because it seems much more sane. Known as Kid’s Corner, the app is a separate launcher that parents may fully customize. Not only can you include or exclude individual apps or games, but also music and video selections. Parents can find Kid’s Corner by swiping left from within the lock screen, though it’ll also be remarkably easy to exit — a child merely needs to press the power button. With this in mind, it seems that a lock screen password will be in order. According to The Verge, we can expect this feature to be available on all Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Windows Phone 8 is bringing a lot of new features with it when it arrives later this year, but one of the more intriguing (and welcome) features is apparently called “Kid’s Corner.” Spotted by The Verge, this new feature gives children their own home screen – one that their parents have complete control over. Parents can share apps, games, and other content with the Kid’s Corner, meaning that when their children use their specially made home screen, they’ll have access to that shared content, but nothing else on the phone.
Once Kid’s Corner has been set up, it can be accessed by swiping from the left on the home screen. To exit Kid’s Mode, one only has to press the power button. As you can see from the images, the name and color of Kid’s Mode is customizable, and it’s a feature that should be hitting all Windows Phone 8 devices.
We have to say that this a pretty genius feature to include with Windows Phone 8. Kids love smartphones as much as adults do, but the problem with that comes from the fact that not everything on a smartphone is appropriate for young children. Things like dialers and app stores can be pretty dangerous in the hands of a young child, and it seems that Kid’s Corner will be able to block children from accessing those.
Kid’s Corner hasn’t been officially unveiled by Microsoft yet, but those images do seem to confirm that such a feature exists. One thing is for sure though: if this is a real feature of Windows Phone 8, then Microsoft will likely be able to win over the hearts of quite few parents. Keep an ear to SlashGear, as we’ll have more information for you once Microsoft spills the beans.

Every Phone Should Have This Windows Phone 8 Childproofing Feature [Windows Phone 8]
Posted in: Today's Chili Kids these days just can’t keep their grubby hands off smartphones and tablets. Once they see the big shiny screen, it’s over. Boogers wiped on your home button, drool trail on the display—it ain’t pretty. But what’s worse is if they accidentally tap into your phone’s personal information: private pictures, salacious text messages, big giant curse words and other awful adult things you do during your alone time. That’s why every phone should have this upcoming feature in Windows Phone 8: Kid’s Corner. More »
Are you looking forward to what Windows Phone 8 can deliver in terms of smartphones? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you will definitely want to take a closer look at the Samsung ATIV S which was first introduced to the world at IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany. From what you can see above, the Samsung ATIV S does seem to shape up to be one slick looking handset, where it will not compromise on its processing power, merging both form and functionality into a single device.
Just how thin is the Samsung ATIV S again? Well, we are looking at a brushed aluminum chassis that measures just 8.7mm, and yet despite that, it is still capable of housing a rather massive 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display which is made from Corning Gorilla Glass 2, nudging it nearer to phablet territory than ever before. Gorilla Glass’ claim to fame would be being super tough, so the “sequel” to this material will exhibit a certain degree of toughness without weighing down your smartphone.
Underneath the hood, you will find a rather zippy 1.5GHz dual-core processor, where that will be accompanied by 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel camera at the back with autofocus capability, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, with a choice of either 16GB or 32GB of storage space. I know that some of us are media junkies, which is why Samsung has thrown in a microSD memory card slot for good measure.
To make sure that everything runs just fine and dandy, the Samsung ATIV S will be powered by a rather huge 2300mAh battery which should last you the entire day. No idea on just how much this puppy will cost nor when will it hit the market, but “soon” should be a good time frame to fall upon. After all, Windows Phone 8 has been rumored to be released this coming October 29th.

Just when you think that the era of decent smartphone cameras has killed the Blurrycam, you get a beauty like this. Here’s an image purporting to be of a new Nokia Windows Phone 8 handset that, if real, we’ll see on September 5th. Of course, it could just as easily be a block of golden marzipan with some detailing, but at least it gives us hope that the company’s sticking with its trademark polycarbonate in various shades of primary colors.

The customary blur image of a leaked photo has arrived yet again, this time around depicting the back of a Nokia handset that is powered by the Windows Phone 8 operating system. There has been speculation on the ground that this particular handset had been given teh codename “Arrow”, sporting a Pikachu yellow back that was seemingly taken by someone who was in a hurry, as though he or she did not want to get caught and risk losing their rice bowl.
One can make the assumption that this is the very same handset of a leaked front panel prior that showed off a 4.3” display, except that this is obviously the back of the phone. The curved edges (hopefully Apple won’t come after Nokia) makes it share a family resemblance to the Nokia Lumia 610 and Lumia 710, while the camera and flash seemed to have a slightly different placement. All in all, patience is in order until Nokia sheds more light on the leaked device. What is your speculation for it at the moment?

Earlier this morning, we took a gander at a couple of Windows-powered devices from Samsung, where the Samsung ATIV S which runs off the Windows Phone 8 operating system was announced. Well, the phone did not receive an official release date just then, but whispers on the street point towards an October 29th release for Windows Phone 8, at least according to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet. Foley cited an unnamed (that is always the case, isn’t it?) source, where there was also a bunch of dates that surrounded October 29th that involved Windows Phone 8 as well as Microsoft’s marketing machine.
Four days before that, Microsoft will host a major launch event for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and the Microsoft Surface RT in New York City. From October 30th to November 2nd, Microsoft’s Build 2012 Conference will happen, and this is the place where software developers congregate and eat, live and breathe the future of Microsoft products, placing a heavy emphasis on Windows Phone 8. Are you looking forward to the end of October?
