Evernote’s getting a version 3.0 overhaul for Windows Phone that updates the app with some majorly welcome improvements. Now, users that launch the note-taking app will be greeted by two UI refreshes: a simplified homescreen that gathers all your necessary tools for quick access at a glance and a more compact tag list that’s easier to navigate and displays more results. The Evernote team’s also added the ability to create checkboxes, group notebooks by “stacks” and pin live-tile shortcuts by long-pressing on tags, notes or notebooks; shortcuts that can be synced across various platforms (i.e., Mac, Windows Phone and Android). And for die-hard organizational freaks that pay for the premium product, the app now features document search — useful for parsing attached MSWord, OpenOffice or iWork docs. The update’s live right now, so it should hit your WP device soon. Or if you’re one of the uninitiated, now’s a good time to make the jump and connect your life with the cloud.

The United Airlines application’s been available on Android and iOS for ages, and, after months of being nowhere to be found, it’s now (finally) time for the Windows Phone 8 crowd to also get to experience what the mobile ware has to offer. Naturally, this means being able to access and peek many things from within the app, including, but not limited to, booking trips, checking flight status, Live Tile notifications and, of course, viewing your digital boarding pass — which is good news for those who prefer a mostly paperless voyage. There’s plenty more goodies where that came from (such as account access and a feature that pinpoints United Club locations), but you’ll have to download the app in order to dig a little deeper — link to do just that is down below.

You don’t need to be Captain Subtext to understand that a few manufacturers (and developers) aren’t best pleased with Microsoft’s latest mobile products. The latest to damn Redmond with faint praise is Samsung’s newly-minted Co-CEO, JK Shin, who told The Wall Street Journal that demand for Windows-based phones and tablets isn’t sending the company’s accountants cross-eyed with glee. When asked about Samsung’s relationship with Microsoft after the latter deepened its ties with Nokia, Shin said:

“Smartphones and tablets based on Microsoft’s Windows operating system aren’t selling very well. There is a preference in the market for Android. In Europe, we’re also seeing lackluster demand for Windows-based products.”

Which, naturally, has done nothing to scotch those persistent rumors of the ATIV Tab being axed in Europe as well as the US. The CEO added that we can expect to see a Tizen-based phone in the third quarter of the year, although Samsung will continue to flirt with every available OS for the needs of its customers.

Microsoft remains convinced that you’ll like Windows Phone if you only give it a try. Accordingly, it just recently updated its web-based demo to reflect all the changes in Windows Phone 8. If you let the web app access Facebook, you’ll get a personalized sample of the OS on your desktop or mobile browser that includes resizable home tiles, Kid’s Corner and other newer additions. No, it’s not a full-fledged simulator, but it does give about as good a taste as you’ll get without the real hardware in your hands. We also can’t say that everyone will be sold on the concept — still, it’s worth a spin for anyone keeping their smartphone options open.

The mobile version of Tango’s video chat app has almost exclusively revolved around smartphones. It’s at last going a little bigger: an update to Tango’s iOS app is introducing full iPad support, expanding conversations to tablet size. Those who don’t need quite that grand a canvas can still make the most of what they have through the new release. Calls now use the whole screen regardless of OS, and iPhone users can touch up any soon-to-be-shared photos in Aviary. The talkative among us just need to snag Tango’s upgrade at the source link to eke a little more from their screens.
