Withings WS-30 WiFi Scales

You know something? Back when I was a kid, I never would have figured out the day would come when computers could surf on this thing called the “Internet”, and that we would be toting around wireless devices everywhere we go. Well, I guess things can change a whole lot in just a couple of decades, and it is going to be an exciting ride to be on this train that is gonna ride for a good half decade more, assuming all goes well with my health before I call it quits in the game of life. Still, it amazes me that something as basic as a bathroom scale would be on the receiving end of WiFi connectivity, no? The £99.99 Withings WS-30 WiFi Scales can be said to be a “sequel” of sorts from the original, where it has obviously gone to the fat house and lost some weight, while being faster and looking all the more fabulous – just like you should, when you have shed off all those accumulated pounds over your holiday feasting.

The Withings WS-30 WiFi Scales comes in a tempered-glass and aluminum body that will automatically record your weight, fat mass and BMI (body mass index) each time you step on it. Your efforts (or lack of it, depending on which side of the disciplinary fence you’re on) will be stored on a secure website, social network or smartphone app, allowing you to access such data at any point in time – as long as there is a decent Internet connection around, of course. Do expect this puppy to be able to keep track and store data for as many as eight users simultaneously, where it will rely on previously recorded data to identify each user. I would assume you would not mind sharing your results over a social network if they have been encouraging, but otherwise, it would be best to keep on working at your fitness regime.

Withings Smart Kid Scale Can Tweet Your Baby’s Weight

Withings has been selling digital fitness devices and a scale for adults that can track your weight or even share it via social networks if you want it to. The idea is that the scale can help motivate you to reach your goals and share your progress with friends.

The company has announced a new version of its connected scale specifically made for babies and toddlers called the Withings Smart Kid Scale.

The scale is designed for children from birth to age eight and has a weight range of 0 to 55 pounds. The accuracy of the scale is within 10 g. What makes it high tech is the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allowing it to interface with an app that runs on your iOS or Android smartphone.

The scale also comes with a folding baby trough that allows you to use the scale with newborn babies. Any parent knows that once you have a baby, keeping track of how well that baby is growing becomes a bit of an obsession. This tech makes it easy and allows you to share with equally obsessed grandparents and other relatives.

The Withings Smart Kid Scale is available right now for $179.95(USD). Baby not included.

Withings Shows Off Its New Smart Scale And Smart Activity Tracker At CES [Video]

WSAT_02

Withings was one of a pretty busy section of the CES 2013 show floor demoing health, fitness and lifestyle monitoring apps, and it had a couple of new things to add to its line of Wi-Fi scales and monitoring devices. One was the new Withings Smart Body Analyzer, which is a version of its Wi-Fi scale that, for the first time, measures heart rate. The other was the Smart Activity Tracker, a FitBit-style device for keeping track of your activity.

The Withings Smart Body Analyzer will be hitting stores in Q1 2013 and retails for $149.95. It does weight and body fat readings like the existing versions and beams all that info either over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to its companion app for iOS or Android. The scale can also detect air quality and is intended to be used in a bedroom so that you can check its readings to figure out when you need to open a window to increase air flow.

The Withings Smart Activity Tracker is like the Jawbone Up, FitBit One, etc. It’s tiny, and it’s hard to convey just how small in words, but you can check it out in the video for a better idea. Besides being incredibly small, which is a big advantage for a device you have to wear constantly, it also connects to your iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth, has an on-device display, and can send you alerts.

Withings Smart Activity Tracker

withings activity tracker Withings Smart Activity Tracker [CES 2013] It is no fun if you are the king of the hill with no competition in sight, as this means there is no need to innovate further to evolve beyond the reach of the competition, simply because there are none to worry about in the first place. Not so with the Withings Smart Activity Tracker though, as it definitely has the Fitbit Ultra in its crosshair, where this unique device comes with an OLED touchscreen display that is capable of uploading your health information to the Withings Health Mate app via Bluetooth Smart connectivity, after taking into account your pulse, calorie consumption and sleep quality when you place your finger at the back of the device. In fact, Withings claim that their diminutive Smart Activity Tracker is capable of lasting the entire fortnight without requiring a recharge, now how about that? You might want to pen it down on your calendar though as a fortnightly reminder.

Measuring less than an inch in width and half an inch in height, the Withings Smart Activity Tracker is a surefire fingerprint magnet thanks to the piano-black glossy looking plastic that it comes in, and shares the approximate thickness of the microUSB port that it will plug into. Something tells me that those who pick up this puppy might actually lose it all too easily, considering the super small dimensions and near non-existent weight. No idea on how much the Withings Smart Activity Tracker will cost, but it ought to arrive at the end of March this year. As for its main rival, the Fitbit One, that will retail for $99, so perhaps the Smart Activity Tracker would not venture too far off from a similar price point.

Withings Smart Body Analyzer

withings smart scale 1 Withings Smart Body Analyzer [CES 2013] The Withings Smart Body Analyzer is not very different from what we have seen in the past, but what makes this edition at CES 2013 different would be the resting heart rate monitor and C02 analyzer that has been integrated into the device, which means that Withings is encouraging you to use this Smart Body Analyzer in other places apart from your bathroom. For example, how about placing this in your bedroom? This would help it get the relevant measurements to determine whether you are getting the right or optimal amount of oxygen required whenever you catch your beauty sleep.

This would no doubt place additional strain on the battery, but according to Withings, it is still able to last for an entire year’s worth of action while running on a quartet of AAA batteries. Hmmm, I guess there is no need to pick up a bunch of rechargeables in the long run then. Of course, there is this particular saying that goes, “in with the new, out with the old”, and with that, we bid adieu to Withing’s Connected Body Scale, so the current flagship is on its way out as the Withings Smart Body Analyzer arrives on store shelves sometime in the first quarter of the year for $149.99 a pop. Enjoy the photo gallery after the break.

Withings new flagship Smart Body Analyzer scale now measures air quality, heart rate

Now that Withings has added a “low-endmodel to its connected-scale pantheon, it’s time for the flagship model to get a refresh. The company’s latest Smart Body Analyzer may look like its predecessor, but now comes with heart rate and air quality monitoring sensors to make sure you’re getting enough oxygen. As before, the data is then pumped over WiFi to Withings’ website and mobile app, which can be shared as far as your dignity allows. Priced at $150, it’ll be arriving at some point in Q1, at which point we can validate our paranoid fantasies about airflow.

Withings goes after Fitbit with its pulse-reading Smart Activity Tracker (update: hands-on video)

Withings goes after Fitbit with its new Smart Activity Tracker

Withings’ assault on our paunchy bellies doesn’t look like it’s going to stop, now that the company has launched a portable sleep and activity tracker that’s clearly designed to go after the Fitbit Ultra. The Smart Activity Tracker makes some impressive claims, offering pulse monitoring if you push your finger onto the back of the device, calculating calorie consumption and monitoring the quality of your sleep. The 43.3-millimeter device has an OLED touchscreen display and will instantly upload your data to the Withings Health Mate app over Bluetooth Smart, and promises to go a full fortnight without needing a recharge. The company hasn’t made any statement as to when it plans to release the unit, or how much it’ll cost you, but we’re looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Withings’ Smart Body Analyzer Feet On: This Wi-Fi Scale Is Basically a Helicopter Parent

Withings’ other announcement today was an updated Wi-Fi scale that measures your heart rate, as well as the quality of the air in which you sleep and reside. A sensor on the scale probes the surrounding air every 30 minutes, a Withings spokesman tells us, and every morning when you jump on, it’ll give you a measurement of the carbon dioxide levels in the air over the course of the last 24 hours. All of that info is fed back wirelessly to the Withings mobile app where it’s parsed and digestible in some manner. More »
