Nowadays, we take most of our photos digitally and they stay digital. Photo paper and bulky albums are dead. So if you are compelled to print you photos for some reason, you might as well try to make it interesting, like printing them as tactile wood reliefs with the Photocarver. More »
Have you ever sat on a chair that seemingly looked sturdy, but eventually gave way under your butt? I have, and let me tell you, while it sounds funny, it’s extremely painful (and embarrassing!) Unfortunately, we only have the chair to blame… or don’t we?
I would say that would be true in most cases, except for the DRM chair. It doesn’t look particularly special – in fact, it looks pretty plain and poorly made, even. But what makes it different is the fact that it self-destructs after eight ‘sits’ or eight uses, whatever you want to call it. It’s fitted with a small sensor that keeps track of how many times it has been sat on. When the counter hits zero, the chair’s structural joints melt down and it essentially falls apart. Watch it in action in the video below:
The chair was made by a group of ECAL students for the worldwide art and engineering competition The Deconstruction.

My two desks are quite cluttered. There’s no denying it, but something like this minimal desk might actually encourage you to cut down on the wires and clutter in your home office.
The Minimal Float Wall Desk can be wall-mounted at any height, making it either a sitting or a standing desk. It can be ordered in walnut or rift oak, and mounts sleekly onto any wall at the height you choose – assuming you have wall studs to mount it into. It’s got a full-length slide out tray for a keyboard, mouse, writing pad or other accessories.
The design is extremely clean, but there’s one problem: you’ll have to work extra hard to hide away all of your wires, because the exposed nature of this minimal desk seems to abhor wires of any kind!
You can get the Minimal Float Wall Desk on sale for $699(USD) over at the dlab shop – it’s normally priced at $1199, so that’s a great deal.

JVC Kenwood – EX-S3 – Compact stereo component system with “wood cone” components
Posted in: Today's ChiliWood should be an ideal material for speakers because it lets sounds transmit quickly and absorbs unnecessary vibration (which is why it is used for musical instruments), but it is also a very difficult material to work with effectively in stereo accoustics. This is why it is very rare to see it in use in this area. JVC Kenwood developed technology to use wood as a material in speakers, called the “Wood Cone Speaker”. The sounds are richer and feel closer than traditional speaker …

What genius gave this robot a chainsaw? This industrial robot has been programmed to carve logs into stools. With a chainsaw. Is this really a good idea? Uh, probably not. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will now become the Robot Chainsaw Massacre. I look forward to it’s endless sequels.
These stools from Germany’s Echtwald get sold to the people who came to watch the robot in action. So you watch this robot cut your stool and then you buy the stool, thanking god that this thing can not follow you home.
It’s almost like blackmail. Here, watch this robot carve up a stool. That could be you getting carved up if we let this thing loose. How about you buy one of these stools now? Yeah, I thought you might need a place to park your butt.
