Classic Arcade Wristwatch: Game and Watch, Literally.

Looking for a new watch? Love video games? Then you’ll love the Classic Arcade watch. Granted, it’s bulky, but the fact that it looks like you’ve got a miniature arcade strapped onto your wrist more than makes up for it.

The tiny joystick is ornamental, but every press of the red button makes a “pew” sound effect and lights up the watch’s display so you can check what time it is. You won’t find numbers on the watch; instead, you’ll be able to tell what time it is based on the positions of the tiny spaceship and the asteroid that’s in pursuit of it.

This Watch Has a Real-Time Solar System

He’s got the whole world in his hands, but this watch has the entire solar system on its face. It’s not just a plain old picture of the sun and planets, either. It’s an actual, moving model of planets moving around the sun – and in real-time, too!

solar system watchThe watch, called the Complication Poétique Midnight Planétarium, was designed by Van Cleef & Arpels and costs a whopping $245,000! It’s aptly named, because the movement can be described as such: poetic.

Think of how awesome it would be to have a view of the planets’ actual current alignment with every glance at your wrist. The shooting star on the face is what tells you the regular time in hours and minutes.

So while Mercury will make a lap around the watch’s face in just 88 days, Venus will require 224, and Earth of course does it in exactly a year. Saturn, on the other hand, the farthest planet from the sun included on this piece, won’t make it back to its starting position for a whopping 29 and a half years.

Ahh, if only I had $245 grand in the bank.

TokyoFlash Kisai RPM Gold Watch Looks Like Something Tony Stark Would Wear

At first glance, this watch might look like a timepiece from the Iron Man franchise, but it’s not. It’s actually the TokyoFlash Kisai RPM gold watch. Like most TokyoFlash timepieces, it’ll require a bit of time and practice before its wearer will actually be able to read the time off of it. Once you get the hang of it, I have no doubt that telling the time will get easier.

When the watch is off, it looks sleek and polished with its blank face and curved, smoked lens. When it’s on, lights illuminate to indicate what time it is: the inner ring displays the current hour, while the outer ring shows the minutes, with each brick divided in five-minute intervals.

The watch also has a neat light-up animation where the LED lights spin around the display at fifteen-minute intervals from six in the evening until midnight. As is the case with many of TokyoFlash’s watches, this one is USB rechargeable.

R2-D2 Wristwatch tells the time as it is, galactic style

r2-d2-wristwatchWhich is the most useful droid around in the Star Wars universe? Most folks would automatically vote for R2-D2, as that is one astromech droid who has saved the Rebel Alliance many times over. We have seen R2-D2 arrive in the form of a timepiece before, but this time around, it comes in a far more advanced form factor. The $249.95 R2-D2 Wristwatch happens to be an official Star Wars collector’s watch, where it bears the hallmark colors and design motifs of the most popular droid in the galaxy.

Heck, this wristwatch even comes with Artoo’s iconic optical lenses, where it will be able to let you know of the time by pointing a red-tipped hand to the hour on an outer dial. Apart from that, there is also a yellow-tipped hand that counts off the minutes on an inner dial. The watch’s bezel itself will be able to turn by hand in order to mimic the spinning of the droid’s dome, all the while making a winding sound. Accurate Japanese quartz movement ensures that the time is kept properly, while the stainless steel case comes across in a splash resistant form factor. Each purchase will also arrive in a collector’s box that includes a numbered certificate of authenticity, which means that this is an officially licensed product by LucasFilm.

‘Average Days’ Watch Lets You Know What the Rest of the World is Usually Doing

Do you ever wonder how you spend your time, relative to the rest of world? While you’re bumming around, the vast majority might be working. While you’re eating, some might be getting ready to work out.

Giving you some perspective on how you spend – and maybe waste – your time is the Average Days watch by Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones is one of my favorite watchmakers because they constantly come up with unusual designs that make you look twice. In this case, they’re making you think twice as well.

The face of the Average Days watch follows a 24-hour format. As the disc turns, a small slot reveals the most common activity that people usually do at that particular time. This information was obtained from data compiled by the Centre For Time Use Research, so they’re not just tasks lifted from some random person’s daily routine.

Only 100 pieces of the watch have been made. Average Days is currently available online from Mr. Jones Watches for £145 (~ $231 USD)

Tikker: The Wristwatch That Counts Down Your Life

We’re all living on borrowed time. Those on their deathbeds would kill to have just one more hour or one more minute or even just one more second to breathe the air and see the world before leaving it forever. So the big question for everyone who’s still here, alive and breathing, is: are you making every second count?

Sometimes, the obligations of life make some people forget what it means to live. Instead, they just exist – and as some say, that’s worse than death. There to remind everyone that the end is coming – and that they should live their lives to the fullest, instead – is Tikker.

tikker watch 1 620x409magnify

Tikker is a wristwatch that’s unlike any other. Aside from showing you what time it is, it also counts down the time you have left before you croak. Of course, the watch can’t predict exactly when you’ll die. Instead, your “expiration date” is set after you fill out a questionnaire and deduct your current age from the results.

Creator Fredrik Colting drew inspiration for Ticker from his grandfather’s death, explaining: “It made me think about death and the transience of life, and I realized that nothing matters when you are dead. Instead what matters is what we do when we are alive.”

There’s wisdom in his words. If you agree and would like to support Ticker, then make a pledge to back the project. You can get your very own Tikker watch by making a pledge of at least $39(USD) over on Kickstarter.

Diesel outs “World’s Largest” Wristwatch – The Grand Daddy

As a guy, I prefer a watch with a large face to one with a small one. Though I’m not sure I’d be comfortable wearing this beast. It’s a new watch from Diesel, called the Grand Daddy (model DZ7262), and it measures a ginormous 66mm x 73mm (~2.6″ x 2.87″).

diesel grand daddy 2

The Grand Daddy offers four completely independent chronograph movements, so you can keep time in four different timezones at once – or better yet, run four different stopwatches simultaneously.

All of that mechanical glory is set into a black ion-plated steel case, with an anti-reflective, irridescent mineral crystal, and set onto a black leather strap. It’s also waterproof to 3ATM (~100 Feet).

Only 1,000 of this massive watch will be produced, and you can get your hands on one of those over at Watchismo – where it sells for $998.99(USD).

For example, New York City’s time is displayed by the Statue of Liberty, while the Eiffel Tower indicates what time it currently is in France. It might take a little time to memorize all of them, but it’s still a really clever idea.

Martian Passport Watch mixes Bluetooth and class, ships by March for $299 (hands-on)

Martian Passport Watch mixes Bluetooth and class, ships by March for $299 handson

The world of Bluetooth watches is getting immensely crowded. After years of trying, it seems as if Bluetooth watch makers finally have a captive audience. The Pebble smartwatch seems to be leading the charge in the here and now, but for those looking for something a bit less Jetsons and a bit more Dick Tracy, there’s the Martian Passport. At a glance, the unit itself looks very much like a classic wristwatch, replete with analog hand dials, a knob to change the time, and a metallic casing. Look a little closer, however, and you’ll spot a 96 x 16 pixel OLED display, capable of displaying contact names for incoming calls and scrolling new text messages. It’s a bit thick (0.52 inches), but it houses a battery that can survive a full two hours of yapping, or seven days in standby. Those needing to juice it back up can do so in a couple of hours via the side-mounted micro-USB port.

Internally, there’s a Bluetooth 4.0 chip (which supports classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth low energy), a vibrating motor for notifications, a three-axis accelerometer, magnetometer, noise-cancellation microphone, and a couple of menu / select buttons on the left. The whole thing is shockingly well built, oozing quality from every possible pore. It’ll play nice with iOS and Android devices, and there’s an incoming iOS app that’ll add even more functionality in the near future. In our testing here at CES 2013, we found the watch to pick up calls and notifications from an iPhone 4S immediately, and the OLED panel was remarkably easy to see even from a few feet away. Chatting into the watch was predictably awkward, but undercover agents should feel right at home. In all seriousness, audio quality was crisp, and folks on the other end had no issues hearing us.

Is it worth the $299 asking price? That’s hard to say. The famed Pebble will begin shipping in just over a week for a measly $149, so you’d have to really prefer the look of this guy to pay double. If that’s you, you can get your order in through the source link below.
