The Best of CES 2014
Posted in: Today's ChiliCES ain’t quite what it used to be. Pretty much all the big guys have pulled out in favor of doing their own events. The phones are OK and the 4K TVs pretty, but a dime a dozen. But there are still some hidden treasures that are amazing. Here’s all the stuff from CES that made us squeal with glee.
I haven’t watched a wrestling match since the days of André the Giant and the Hulkster back in the 80′s. I know tons of people still like the WWE and spend lots of money to see the wrestling matches in person and on pay-per-view. I’ve also seen those events on the PPV schedule and they are anything but cheap. At CES 2014, the WWE announced the pending launch of a new streaming network.
The network is called the WWE Network and it will be available on tablets, smartphones, PCs, Macs and game consoles starting on February 24. I think most people will watch the WWE Network on their PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360 on the big screen in the living room. WWE says that an app for the Xbox One will come later.
The service is slated to cost $9.99(USD) per month with a six month contract. For the money, you will get access to 1500 hours of archived content for on-demand streaming at launch. You will also get access to all 12 live PPV events, including WrestleMania. If you were going to watch those events anyway, you might save some money with a subscription to the WWE Network.
If you’re interested in finding out more about what the WWE Network includes, check out their FAQ here, or view a service demo here.

[CES 2014] While we all know that WWE offers entertainment wrestling with some interesting scripts, there is still the excitement of seeing beefed up men as well as ladies having a go at one another, with subplots running in the background at times, too. At the Wynn Hotel and Casino earlier this evening, wrestlers including Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon has introduced a bombshell where the streaming landscape is concerned – the WWE Network will is set to be realized this coming February 24th at 11:05, with an asking price of $9.99 per month, which ain’t too much actually. For what could get you an average meal in a city, this subscription will include all of the network’s pay-per-views, WrestleMania included.
The kicker is, it will not be made available in cable subscriptions; but rather, it will simply stream on every device you own. However, one ought to take note that it will most probably not feature Raw and Smackdown as part of the deal, although old episodes will make the cut on the new network, in addition to pre- and post-show content. Making use of the digital network, would see WWE take full advantage of different revenue streams , and the apps will also allow viewers to purchase tickets to the org’s live events, gaining access to the e-store as well.

At an event at CES, WWE Chairman and frequent in-ring bad guy Vince McMahon announced that his cadre of professional wrestlers were getting their very own digital network. And it’s only (no really, only) 10 bucks a month.
The release of WWE 2K14 is coming just next week, which means many wrestling fans are probably curious to see just how well 2K Games will do with the franchise now that THQ is no longer publishing the title. WWE 2K14 will already have a nice mix of both current and older wrestlers to play as, alongside or against, but today, 2K is announcing the game will have a season pass that will allow players to download additional characters, items and moves for one low price.

PlayStation is expanding its streaming footprint one piledriver at a time with the new Live Events Viewer. Announced at E3 and available today, the app will let you buy and watch pay-per-view events — starting with this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam — directly from your PS3 without the need for a cable subscription. Sony is promising that new programming will be available on a weekly basis and that there will be free content in addition to PPVs, too. All that’s available right now are UFC and WWE specials, but according to the US PlayStation Blog, concerts, races and “other entertainment events” are en route. You could also get your scripted and unscripted fisticuffs fix on the Xbox 360, but you need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription to use them.

It’s been just under a week since Yahoo scored exclusive rights to stream Saturday Night Live clips, but the old guard of search has just divulged more of its video plans at its Digital Content NewFront event. Taking a page from Netflix’s playbook, the firm announced its original comedy lineup will be released in a “binge-viewing” style á la House of Cards this fall, and added Tiny Commando, We Need Help and Losing Your Virginity with John Stamos to its humor roster. Mayer and Co. also revealed a trio of lifestyle programs called Fashion Recipe, Cinema & Spice and Grill Girls, which are headed online at some point later this year.
In addition to its in-house programming, Yahoo’s partnered with the WWE to create an online wrestling hub starting this summer, which will include clips, a 30-minute Monday Night Raw pre-show, two original weekly shows with 50 episodes per year, an archive of full historic matches and more. The folks in Sunnyvale are also set to stream video content from Conde Nast Entertainment, and expand their relationship with ABC News thanks to World News Behind the Headlines, Nightline: Online and GMA Live. News junkies will also be able to tune into the CNBC’s Talking Numbers. Wrestelmania XXIX is taking place this Sunday just a few miles from where I live, but seeing as I don’t have a ticket to the big show, I’ll most likely be watching the big event from the comfort of my home on my Xbox 360 now that an official WWE application has launched on the platform.
Microsoft announced WWE’s dedicated application on the Xbox 360 has officially launched making it possible to order pay-per-view events right within your console’s dashboard. There couldn’t have been a better time to launch the app as we’re sure many of you were already planning on purchasing this weekend’s pay-per-view event, so why not take your business to your Xbox 360?
