Ben Heck Builds PS3 Wii U Xbox 360 Combo System

I’ve been waiting a very long time for somebody to build a single game system which could play all of today’s console games. Well that day is today – courtesy of master modder Ben Heck. For his latest project, Ben has created a single mutant machine that combines a PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

ben heck ultimate combo system

Heck’s wood-cased Ultimate Combo System may not be the sleekest and most modern looking thing, but it’s still an impressive build, having combined these three current-gen consoles in a single box. We don’t know too much about the final build other than the picture shown above. However, Ben and element14 have teamed to release a 3-part series chronicling this epic build. Here’s Part 1 for your enjoyment – skip to about 1:25 to get to the meat of the mattter.

Surprisingly, this is the first time that Heck has disassembled a Wii U or the new PS3 super slim, but he digs right in and starts ripping things apart right away, giving us all a glance inside the two most recent consoles. Parts 2 and 3 of the build video will be released on element14 on March 15th and March 23rd, respectively, and will reveal the construction of the case and assembly of all of the components. From what I can tell, the final build will include HDMI switching to a single output, and I’m betting it’ll have a power strip built in so you can plug it in with a single cable – but that’s just conjecture on my part. Personally, I can’t wait to see exactly how the finished thing works.

While I’d assume Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will never collaborate on such a console, you can still get your hands on this one. Those of you interested in the build can enter to win it over on element14 now.

Halo 4 Castle Map Pack Adds 3 New Maps, 6v6 Playlist On April 8

Halo 4′s Majestic Map Pack was the last piece of DLC content released by 343 studios, which was released just a few weeks ago. Before the game released, Microsoft had promised three additional map packs would be released, and today, we’re hearing some information regarding the final map pack, called Castle.

The Castle Map Pack for Halo 4 will add three new maps as well as a 6 vs. 6 playlist when it’s released. The three maps included in the Castle Map Pack are called Daybreak, Outcast and Perdition. The Daybreak map takes place in the middle of military facilities which includes an idyllic mountain range while Outcast has players fighting through the tunnels and arches of a secluded rebel outpost. The final map, Perdition, takes the multiplayer mayhem into the heart of an urban battleground. (more…)

Angry Birds Trilogy “Fowl Tempered” DLC out now with 135 new levels

Angry Birds Trilogy for the PlayStation 3 Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS has received its second DLC pack titled “Fowl Tempered.” It features a whopping 135 new levels that are based on the game’s episodes Back to School, Bad Piggies, and Haunted Hogs. The DLC pack also features a new bird named Stella, who can trap enemies in pink bubbles and carry them away.

angry-birds-dlc

This is the second DLC pack for Angry Birds Trilogy, the first of which was the “Anger Management” DLC pack, which added 130 levels to the console game back in December. It also added new cutscenes and new orange bird that inflates. Angry Birds Trilogy was released in September for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo 3DS, with versions for the Wii and Wii U coming later this year.

The new DLC pack is available now for the Xbox 360 and PS3 at a price of 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network. No word on whether or not the DLC will come to the 3DS, but seeing as how Activsion only released “Anger Management” for PS3 when it initially launched, we doubt that 3DS users will get this second pack.

While the console version of the game is still a paid game, Rovio recently made the iOS version of Angry Birds free. You can download the game now on iOS and save yourself a dollar (or a few dollars if you’re getting the iPad version). Rovio also launched Angry Birds Space on Steam today for $3.99.

Gears Of War: Judgment Cinematic Trailer Highlights Emergence Day

Gears of War: Judgment is just a week and a half away from its release, which means we can expect to learn a little bit more about Kilo Squad before the events that occurred during Gears of War even happened. The game takes place immediately after Emergence Day and its Kilo Squad’s mission, nay, their duty to save Halvo Bay from the unstoppable Locust.

Gears of War: Judgment’s debut TV commercial may not have impressed us, but the game’s new cinematic trailer more than makes up for it as you can certainly feel the tension that’s building up in the game from the opening sequence. I mean, we see Baird salute someone and then get punched in the face and dragged off to stand trial. Then, all hell breaks lose as the Locust attack during Baird’s trial.

The cinematic trailer also highlights some of the multiplayer action we can expect in Gears of War: Judgment, which introduces a class-based multiplayer mode in addition to tons of explosions and blood. Two things Gears of War players already know is a staple of the series.

Tomb Raider’s First Multiplayer Pack Hitting Xbox 360 On March 19

Tomb Raiders First Multiplayer Pack Hitting Xbox 360 On March 19

Square Enix’s Tomb Raider was released yesterday across multiple platforms, that is, except for the Wii U. If you picked up a copy of the game yesterday, you probably haven’t even thought about touching its multiplayer modes as we’re sure you’re dying to know what exactly is going on with Lara Croft in this game that makes her always look so beat up. But that isn’t stopping Square Enix from announcing its first multiplayer map pack.

Tomb Raider will be receiving its first multiplayer map pack called “Caves and Cliffs” which introduces three new multiplayer maps exclusively on the Xbox 360 on March 19. Each of the three maps in this pack will be playable within all four of Tomb Raider’s multiplayer game modes and their names and descriptions follow: (more…)

Pulp Is First Exclusive Xbox 360 Movie

Pulp Is First Exclusive Xbox 360 MovieThere is nothing quite like the word “exclusive” to draw in an audience. Video game consoles have long had their own “exclusives”, with Mario starring only on Nintendo consoles, while Sonic used to be the mainstay of Sega until Sega folded as a hardware company, and the ilk. Well, how about the realm of movies? Do exclusives work? There is only one way to find out, and that would include doing the pioneering work yourself. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 decided to step onto the domain of movie theaters and premium cable subscriptions by launching Pulp, which is a British indie comedy that is exclusive to the console itself.

So far, the movie has been shortlisted at a bunch of film festivals, but that alone is not enough to generate the kind of publicity that creator Adam Hamdy wanted due to the insane costs of marketing less-than-famous films. Hence, thinking out of the box by jumping onto the Xbox 360 bandwagon. Hopefully with 77 million Xbox 360 owners around worldwide, some of them should at least view Pulp once on their respective consoles, spending nearly 2 hours of one’s life to appreciate Adam’s hard work.

Gears Of War: Judgment ‘Cheevos’ Commercial Focuses On Multiplayer Hijinks

Last night’s re-run of Family Guy played host to the first commercial for Gears of War: Judgment, which will be releasing on the Xbox 360 on March 19. The commercial, called “Cheevos” ditches the traditional Gears of War commercials that featured some heart-wrenching visuals while somber music played, and instead went for a multiplayer-focused ad.

The Cheevos commercial highlights three Gears of War multiplayer fans who are apparently proud of achievements they’ve completed in Gears of War: Judgment. One fan completed 40 declassified missions, another won 92 Overrun matches and the last earning the “Like A Boss” achievement on his 22nd attempt. (more…)

Mass Effect Citadel DLC to be split into two downloads for Xbox 360

While PC and PlayStation 3 gamers will be receiving their Citadel DLC in a single file download, for some strange reason, Xbox 360 gamers will have their Citadel DLC split into two separate download packs. Bioware says that the download size of the DLC is too big compared to the previous DLC packs, resulting in the decision to split the file into two downloads. You will only have to pay for the DLC once though.

Mass Effect Citadel DLC to be split into two downloads for Xbox 360

Bioware posted on its Mass Effect 3: Citadel FAQ, “For Xbox 360 users, the Citadel DLC pack will come as 2 downloads on Xbox Live. ME3 Citadel is larger than our previous DLC packs, so it had to be split into 2 downloads. The first pack is priced at $14.99 and the second pack is tagged as free. Players need to purchase and download pack 1, then download pack 2 at no additional cost.” The FAQ continued to say that you can download pack 2 without downloading the first one, but users will only receive an error message that will redirect them to download pack #1.

Players will be able to access the Citadel DLC download after they stop the Cerberus coup attempt on the citadel. You do not have to complete the entire game before being able to access the DLC. You will, however, have to meet the characters in the original storyline before you can interact with them in the Citadel DLC. The game will have no effect on the ending, or the extended-endings of Mass Effect 3.

The DLC expands the longevity of Mass Effect 3 and should keep many avid fans happy. The game will also have a few tie-ins with Mass Effect 3′s upcoming comic series, Mass Effect: Foundation, which is a comic book series that will go back through the existing stories in the Mass Effect universe and elaborate on them more. The Citadel DLC will be available on March 5th on all platforms.

Eidos Interactive defends Tomb Raider’s Age 18+ rating

The new Tomb Raider is set to come out within the next few days and it has a lot of gamers eager to test it out. Many game critics have given the series reboot positive reviews saying that a refresh to the Tomb Raider franchise has been a long time coming. The game, however, has been receiving some concerned feedback on one aspect, and that’s the 18+ maturity rating it’s labeled with. This reboot is the first game in the entire Tomb Raider series to have an 18+ rating.

Eidos Interactive defends Tomb Raider's Age 17 rating

Despite the feedback about the maturity rating, the game developers for Tomb Raider do not believe they were wrong when they added more violence to the game. They also said that they were not influenced into adding more violence to the game because of games like Call of Duty. President of Eidos Interactive, Ian Livingstone, stated that gamers have a desire for “gritty realism”, which is exactly why the developers included all the gore, traps, hunting, and more in this game. His point is proven in this Tomb Raider trailer when we see everything that Lara Croft has to go through in order to survive.

Livingstone stated, “A decision was made to make it 18+ because of the combat involved, the graphics involved, and that gritty realism. It’s definitely the correct decision.” He stated that Eidos wanted to improve the fighting elements of Tomb Raider, because it always seemed to be placed on the back burner while the puzzle elements were front and center. While the game still follows the elements of exploration, adventure, and puzzle solving, there will be a lot more combat in this reboot.

This Tomb Raider reboot will take you back to the origins of Lara Croft and how she became who she was in the previous games. The game is set to be released world wide on March 5th via its publisher, Square Enix. In this game, you can take part in Lara Croft’s first human kill, as well as her transformation from a scared, young girl to the tough, fearless tomb raider she is in the 1996 series.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer prematurely leaked

Ubisoft made a teaser for its “world premiere trailer” for the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The world premiere was supposed to take place on Monday, but unfortunately for Ubisoft, the trailer was leaked prematurely. The trailer was leaked through GameRadar’s YouTube channel, and taken down soon afterwards, but to Ubisoft’s horror, many more copies of the videos took its place.

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag trailer prematurely leaked

The protagonist of this game is Captain Edward Kenway, an infamous pirate able to “clear the deck of a Spanish galleon like it were nothing”. The trailer shows Kenway in action as he’s able to assassinate almost an entire ship with ease, and able to commit murder in public without anyone (except his new mistress) batting an eye. To many loyal Assassin’s Creed fans, this game will be another welcome addition to the group, while to others, it just seems like Ubisoft is milking the Assassin’s Creed franchise for all it’s worth.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and the PC. It will also be available for the next-gen consoles whenever they come out, so those of you willing to wait, you can purchase the game for your future PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720. You are able to pre-order the game now, and if you do, you’ll get a limited edition poster created by cartoonist Todd McFarlane.

It looks like Ubisoft can go ahead and cancel that “World Premiere Trailer” website they had designed and prettied up all for Assassin’s Creed IV. Besides getting a sneak peak at the game, and finding out its official release date is October 29th, there isn’t much else we know yet about the game. It is rumored that Assassin’s Creed IV will be taking place in either Jamaica, Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, or England.
