$99 Xbox 360 with Kinect bundle now available

Microsoft confirmed earlier rumors of a $99 Xbox 360 sometime last month, and here we are spiralling towards the end of June with word that this particular bundle that will not cost more than a Benjamin, has arrived at store shelves at long last. There is a catch with this particularly bargain basement price – as the buyer, you will need to maintain a $14.99 monthly subscription to Xbox Live Gold, and this commitment will run for two years, which is far longer than Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries. It does make plenty of financial sense if you see yourself spending a lot of time playing using an Xbox Live Gold account, and I believe that those who intend to make the most of this purchase will make a beeline for it – others might want to sit back and think things through before making a two year commitment.

Basically, for $99 a pop, you will receive the basic 4GB Xbox 360 version, as well as Kinect. Throughout the two years, you end up forking out around $30 more compared to purchasing an Xbox 360 right from the get go with Kinect in tow. However, if you are going to subscribe to Xbox Live for multiplayer gaming purposes all the way, this is one bundle not to be missed.

Bioware Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut is released

For those who still haven’t found their closure with Mass Effect 3, even after Bioware took the unprecedented move of creating a new ending, there’s a new hope. The company has rolled out Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a lengthier edition of the previous download with more content and additional plot resolutions. Gamers have mixed reactions about the whole ordeal, but many at least appreciate Bioware doing something about it.

The Extended Cut file is available as a free download, of course, and it provides only minor additions to the new ending that fans of the game had already experiences. In addition, those who really cared about Mass Effect already got their hands on the extra content that’s available in the new download. Nevertheless, Bioware hopes it is making good on its promise to rectify what was a PR nightmare that began shortly after the title first went on sale.

The general reaction seems to be that this is the ending Bioware should have included from the beginning. While you’ll never have something that everyone loves, creating something that everyone hates is far more polarizing. The Extended Cut will transition into a paid download after April 2014, so there’s still plenty of time to catch up even if you still haven’t played the first Mass Effect.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 $99 on-contract deal expands to Best Buy, Gamestop

Microsoft's Xbox 360 $99 oncontract deal expands to Best Buy, Gamestop

The Xbox 360 pilot program’s breaking out of its Microsoft Store-only confines and heading to more ubiquitous electronics retailers Best Buy and GameStop starting today. If you’ll remember, Redmond intro’d this subsidized plan last month, giving prospective buyers within reach of one of its 16 participating locations the ability to purchase a 4GB version of the console for $99 with a two-year commitment. In exchange for those contract chains, gamers forking over the $15 monthly fee not only get the privilege of owning the console at a discounted, upfront cost, but also Gold level membership to Xbox Live. We’d caution you to think twice and do some hard math before you hand over the plastic, though. Tempting as that low-price barrier to entry is — in total, a $460 value — you might be better off grabbing this console outright at $420 or less.

Xbox Kinect $99 deal starts today

This week you’ll be able to head down to your favorite GameStop or Best Buy location and pick yourself up an Xbox with a Kinect for just $99 USD. THere’s a catch, of course, in that you’ve got to sign up for two years of Xbox LIVE Gold, that costing you an additional $14.99 USD a month. THe cost of the beast you’re buying from one of the two stores listed this week will over the course of the contract end up costing you $99 + $360, a price that’s quite a bit more than your everyday average $299 for the package with no contract.

This deal is for those of you wishing to spread out your costs over a longer period and for those of you that planned on grabbing a membership anyway. For those of you looking to spend the least amount of cash in the end, the device package you want is everywhere you look. This $99 deal is up at Best Buy and GameStop starting this week.

If you’re dissatisfied by what you’ve purchased, you do have a 30 day return period in which you’ll only end up losing your first month’s subscription, which is non-refundable. Those people waiting more than 30 days before ending a subscription will be subject to a $250 early termination fee.

Sound like an awesome deal to you?
