Sony Xperia P Jelly Bean Screenshot Leaked

Sony Xperia P Jelly Bean Screenshot LeakedSony Mobile seems to be putting in the extra hours so that they are able to roll out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update that has been a long awaited update for plenty of owners of Sony Xperia smartphones which were released last year. The Sony Xperia P, also known by its model number LT22i, is said to be updated sometime at the end of this month according to the official release schedule, which means there are a few more days left to go. Hence, it is not surprising to see at least one leaked screenshot of the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia P hit the Internet rumor mills, and here we are presenting it to interested readers on the right.

The screenshot depicts the Sony Xperia P running on the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware with build number 6.2.X.X.XXX, which is not out of line from what we expect. As for the kernel, it seems to remain stuck at version 3.0.8, instead of being bumped up to version 3.4 as seen on more recently released smartphones.

How would you change Sony’s Xperia P?

How would you change Sonys Xperia P

Sony’s problem (or at least, one of ’em), is its slavish devotion to Gingerbread that goes above and beyond that of its smartphone rivals. As a consequence, its Xperia P came out humbled with an aged OS and a promise of a future upgrade. It’s a shame, because we found it to have real charm, good build quality (one of Sony’s strengths) and a display that can hold its own against the light. If you bought one, you’ve had a good five or six months to get to know and love it, so how do you feel? Is it the phone for you, or do you wish you’d gone elsewhere? This week, How Would You Change lets you play amateur smartphone designer, so head into the comments and let your imagination run riot.

Sony giving away a limited edition 24K gold Xperia P smartphone

Black Friday is all about shopping in the U.S. But in Sweden, it’s all about Guldfredag or Gold Friday. Why? That’s because Sony is offering to give away a limited 24K gold edition Xperia P today, Monday. Sony has just posted the instructions on its Facebook page for you to follow. If you’re interested, simply tell Sony what is Gold Friday for you, and send your answer to fans.se@sonymobile.com. The contest ends today, you you might want to start right now.

Although Sony hasn’t confirmed it yet, it looks like the limited edition Xperia P is gold-plated, because a pure gold model would make the phone heavy and impractical for mobile use. But, if it will be solid gold, then that will all the more make the contest very interesting. You can enter by visiting Sony Mobile’s official Facebook page. The Sony Xperia P features a 4-inch display with a 960 x 540 resolution, a 1 GHz U8500 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sony to start Xperia upgrades to Jelly Bean by mid-Q1, rules out all 2011 phones

Sony Xperia T review close-up

We’ve got mixed news for those who were wondering just where Sony’s Jelly Bean updates were headed. The good? Sony has narrowed down its upgrade schedule for the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V to the middle of 2013’s first quarter, or roughly February. Just about every other reasonably capable 2012 model is also getting an upgrade once Sony has narrowed down the timetable, ranging from the Xperia S through to the Xperia ion and Xperia go. Brace yourself for the dark side of the news, however: not a single 2011 Xperia phone will make the Jelly Bean leap, no matter how quick or recent it might be. The company was “not able to guarantee” the experience the devices would have with the newer OS, we’re told. While we know that some older phones would have been borderline at best, that cutoff won’t be pleasant for anyone whose Xperia Arc S is already out of the Android upgrade loop after less than a year.

Sony starts pushing Android 4.0 update to Xperia P owners, Xperia U and more coming soon

Sony Xperia P review

Sony has been steadily deploying its Android 4.0 updates, but it’s been leaving some of its newest phones out of the loop. Consider the Xperia P back in the groove: its upgrade is rolling out over the course of a few weeks, starting today. As always, the exact timing will depend on the carrier and country, and some owners may have to download the update the archaic, wired way instead of through the air. Should the Xperia P deployment still leave your device out of the running, Sony keenly points out that the Xperia U, Xperia go and Xperia sola are next on deck to receive a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. About the only question left is when Android 4.1 will reach any Xperia models, although we’re really just thankful to have much of Sony’s current lineup on the same page.

Android 4.0 ICS rolling out to the Sony Xperia P today

Earlier this month, Sony Mobile India had published on its Facebook that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will be making its way onto the Sony Xperia P between the 19-25th of August. As it turns out they might have gotten their dates wrong as Sony has officially announced that the Android 4.0 ICS update has begun rolling out to Xperia P handsets starting from today. The rollout is expected to continue over the next couple of weeks to markets all over the world, so perhaps the 19-2th August timeframe might not be totally off after all and you probably shouldn’t fret if you haven’t received the notification yet. According to Sony, these are some of the features that Xperia P owners can look forward to in the update: (more…)

Sony Xperia P to receive Android 4.0 ICS 19-25 August, according to Sony Mobile India

We knew that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was bound to roll out to the Sony Xperia P, but we guess the bigger question on everyone’s minds was when? Well according to Sony Mobile India’s Facebook page, it seems that an update to Android 4.0 ICS will be taking place between the 19th and 25th of August. Of course given that this was posted on Sony Mobile India’s Facebook page, it is unclear as to whether those dates are specific to India or if they are global. Either way if the announcement is limited to just the Indian market, we expect that a global rollout of Android 4.0 for the Xperia P should follow shortly, if not before. Of course those in the US who are tied to carriers might have to wait longer as the update will probably be pending carrier approval, but either way we will be keeping our eyes peeled so check back with us on the 19th for more updates!
