Sony delivers Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U smartphones to the US

At long last, Sony Mobile Communications has delivered their Xperia NXT range of smartphones to the US, coming in the form of the Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U. The rest of the world has more or less gotten a good look at them for some time now, with happy owners of the respective smartphones, so to see these devices arrive Stateside is a relief to all you who have been waiting for the longest time.

We have covered the details of these handsets in the past, and just to get a better idea on pricing and colors which they come in, read on. All of the handsets with the prices quoted here might sound far higher than what you are normally used to, but that is because they are not subsidized in any way, coming in an unlocked form factor so that you need not get tied down to any long term contract.

The Xperia S will come in black or white shades at $559.99, while the Xperia P is more affordable at $479.99, where you can choose from silver, red or black colors. The cheapest model of the lot? The black or white Xperia U.

Sony Xperia P comes in a pretty pink shade now

“Pink is my favorite color…” sang rocker Steve Tyler with his band, Aerosmith. Well, pink certainly does seem to be the color of choice this summer, as different hardware manufacturers have come up with a pink alternative to their normally bland shaded handsets, as with AT&T’s recent announcement for a pink Lumia 900. It does seem as though there is now a pink version of the Sony Xperia P in tow which was recently caught at Sony Mobile’s Weibo event.

Needless to say, as with its other pink brethren from other manufacturers, the only change here seems to be cosmetic in terms of color, otherwise everything else underneath the hood should remain similar. Apart from pink, you can still opt for more ‘normal’ colors like black, silver and red. There is no word on pricing or availability of the pink Xperia P as at press time. Just what is your budget if you were to have this in your sights, and do you really think that a pink shade on a device will persuade the ladies to pick one up?

Sony Xperia P blushes in metallic pink

If the black, grey and red hues of existing Xperia P models really weren’t cutting it, Sony has just previewed a new color option — pink. The device made a brief appearance at Sony’s Weibo event, matching the metallic finish of our review model, but throwing in a little extra feminine charm. No news on release regions or dates, but given the Asia-centric reveal, we suspect it’s unlikely to be gearing up for a world tour.

Sony Xperia P gets new firmware update

One thing about modern day devices would be this – receiving a firmware update has been taken for granted, and we as consumers tend to think that companies behind these devices owe us some firmware updates at the very least – a school of thought that I myself subscribe to, and I am unashamed to say so. After all, we have paid good money for that piece of gizmo, so is it that much to ask for a new firmware for current hardware to increase its performance, it might be a wee bit too much to fork out for a totally new piece of hardware once a year.

Having said that, there is a new firmware update in the pipeline for the Sony Xperia P, where this is touted to be a low-key release. You should end up with the firmware build number 6.0.B.3.162, but to date, no official changelog is available for our perusal, so there is no telling just what is so different from the current 6.0.B.1.564 firmware. Your Android version will remain at 2.3.7 though.
