Sony announced today that it is rolling out a new maintenance update for the Xperia S, Xperia SL and Xperia Acro S smartphones. These devices have previously received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. This particular release brings crucial bug fixes and improvements which Sony has made after receiving feedback from users. The update has started rolling out, if you own any of the devices mentioned above, your device will automatically notify you that an update is available to download.

The company also says that this update brings stability and performance tweaks as well. Sony Xperia S To Get Jelly Bean In May Instead

Sony Xperia S To Get Jelly Bean In May InsteadSometime in the middle of last month, we were treated to news that the Sony Xperia S would be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update before March is over, but now that we are well into the middle of the month of April with no Jelly Bean in sight for the Xperia S, you can be sure that owners of the Xperia S are starting to be a disgruntled bunch. Thanks to a leaked update roadmap for the French carrier SFR, it seems that the Jelly Bean update for the Xperia S will at long last, launch later next month – that is, May.

The Sony Xperia S was first launched in February last year with Android 2.3 Gingerbread in tow, before it was on the receiving end of the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update down the road before being given confirmation that it too, will also be upgraded to Jelly Bean when the time is right. Of course, the Xperia S would not go beyond Jelly Bean, so do expect it to sit out of the Key Lime Pie treatment.

Sony Xperia S To Get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean At The End Of March

Sony Xperia S To Get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean At The End Of MarchSo, you happen to own one of Sony Mobile’s older devices? Well, how has that experience been for you so far? Surely you must be wondering, whether the Sony Xperia S, a flagship device in its own right back in the day when it ruled the roost among other Sony handsets, would be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update? Well, I guess all sorts of waiting will be over soon, as you once again celebrate the virtue of exercising patience, as it has been announced over a Twitter feed that the Sony Xperia S will be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update before this month is over.

It sure as heck is shaping up to be a pretty decent Easter this year for those who have been hankering after Sony Mobile to bring this operating system update to their beloved Xperia S! Of course, we are not one who adopts the stance of counting our chickens before they hatch, so we have decided to wait it out for the next two weeks plus before pulling out our party hats.

Sony to start Xperia upgrades to Jelly Bean by mid-Q1, rules out all 2011 phones

    Sony Xperia T review close-up

We’ve got mixed news for those who were wondering just where Sony’s Jelly Bean updates were headed. The good? Sony has narrowed down its upgrade schedule for the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V to the middle of 2013’s first quarter, or roughly February. Just about every other reasonably capable 2012 model is also getting an upgrade once Sony has narrowed down the timetable, ranging from the Xperia S through to the Xperia ion and Xperia go. Brace yourself for the dark side of the news, however: not a single 2011 Xperia phone will make the Jelly Bean leap, no matter how quick or recent it might be. The company was “not able to guarantee” the experience the devices would have with the newer OS, we’re told. While we know that some older phones would have been borderline at best, that cutoff won’t be pleasant for anyone whose Xperia Arc S is already out of the Android upgrade loop after less than a year.
