Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software Update

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software UpdateSony did make an announcement over its official Twitter account that they have lined up a brand new software update for the the Sony Xperia Z1 as well as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. This particular update will not be the Android 4.4 KitKat release that many would have been looking forward to, but I guess this is where the second law of updates apply – any update is better than no update at all, right? After all, this particular update from Sony would arrive with a bunch of new features that will hopefully be able to make a positive impact and difference to the end user.

Sony Sirius Compared With Xperia Z1 Side By Side

Sony Sirius Compared With Xperia Z1 Side By SideYou know that a particular smartphone is about to roll out when more and more rumors surrounding it start to make its way to the online news channels and blogs. Case in point, the next flagship smartphone from the folks over at Sony, where the Sony D6503, also known as the Sony Sirius, or in some other circles, it has been called the Sony Xperia Z2, has been spotted resting side by side with its soon-to-be predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z1, as you can see in the photo above.

Sony Xperia Z1 Users Complain Of Their Phones Warping

Sony Xperia Z1 Users Complain Of Their Phones WarpingDoes Sony have a curved display smartphone in the works? If we didn’t know any better, the photo above would seem to suggest just that, but as it turns out it’s actually from a series of photos that have been posted online where different Sony Xperia Z1 owners have complained that their phones have started to bend, although the exact reason is unclear. The Xperia Z1 is made from aluminum which is a relatively soft material which is why its ability to bend when enough pressure is put upon it is not completely out of the question. However whether these Xperia Z1 owners have been sitting on their phones or if they have warped due to another reason is unclear at this point in time.

The users themselves report that they have not put any additional force onto the phones that would cause it to bend, so what could it be? The photos also appear to be real and not photoshopped (although we’re no expert so if you think they are, let us know!), and this is also the first time we’re hearing about the Xperia Z1 warping, which is surprising given that the phone has been in the market for a few months now. In any case we did not encounter this issue with our review unit but any Xperia Z1 owners out there can vouch for these claims?

Xperia Z1 Launched In China As The L39t

Xperia Z1 Launched In China As The L39tWe did read about how the Sony Xperia Z1 has already been on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update recently, and for those who happen to live in China, the Xperia Z1 too, has made its way to that part of the world, although it has been launched with a different model number this time around – where it is better known as the L39t. China Mobile, the world’s largest carrier, has been making the rumor rounds recently of offering the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c from Apple this coming December 18th, and to be able to pick up the flagship Sony Xperia Z1 is another feather in their cap.

This high end model from Sony would come with a 5” display at 1080 x 1920 resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM and a 20.7-megapixel shooter at the back. The Sony L39t from China Mobile will be slightly different in terms of its hardware specifications, where instead of carrying 16GB of internal memory, it will have double the amount of space at 32GB. One major drawback would be the lack of a microSD memory card slot, which would be a bummer for any. Anyone of you living in China would pick this over Apple’s shiny new offerings?

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Rolling Out To Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra

Even though Android 4.4 KitKat seems to be what every Android owner wants to be running on their device, there are still some popular phones out there that have yet to even make it to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. For example, Sony’s Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, which the company has announced both will begin receiving Android 4.3 starting today.  (more…)

T-Mobile Xperia Z1 Render Surfaces Once Again

T Mobile Xperia Z1 Render Surfaces Once Again

Sony launched the Xperia Z1 smartphone earlier this year and since then it has been rumored that T-Mobile is going to carry it. The carrier itself is yet to confirm if it has any intentions to carry the latest from Sony, but we have already seen a render of the device with its branding on it. Another render of the T-Mobile Xperia Z1 has surfaced, this time showing the front of the device as well. Magenta hasn’t made an official announcement as yet and it is not known when it intends to do so.

Sony Xperia Z1S Poses Beside Xperia Z1 In Leaked Picture

Sony Xperia Z1S Poses Beside Xperia Z1 In Leaked Picture

The Sony Xperia Z1S has been flirting with us for quite some time now, but it is still not known when this smartphone is going to be announced. It is believed to be the international variant of the Xperia Z1 f which Sony launched in Japan last month. The Xperia Z1 f is basically a “mini” variant of the Xperia Z1, but unlike most “mini” variants, the Z1 f doesn’t compromise a lot on specifications. After making a brief appearance on Sony’s website, the Xperia Z1S is now seen in a new leaked picture posing beside the Xperia Z1.

While Sony has pulled the listing from its website, it is believed that the Xperia Z1S is going to have specifications similar to the Z1 f. The latter touts a 4.3 inch QHD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, 2 megapixel front and a 20 megapixel rear camera. A 2,300mAh battery is onboard as well. It is also expected to be dust and waterproof. As per the most recent rumor, Sony might officially announce the Xperia Z1S on November 26th, but the company is yet to confirm this date. It is not known right now if any carriers in the U.S. will offer this device, and if they do, how much will they charge for it. [Image via Digi-Wo]

New Sony Xperia Z1s Photo Leaked

New Sony Xperia Z1s Photo LeakedThe word on the street is that Sony has a new smartphone in the works known as the Xperia Z1s, which is apparently the international version of the Xperia Z1 f which was launched in Japan back in October. While it remains unknown as to when Sony will announce the new Xperia Z1s for the rest of the world, thanks to newly leaked photos, we now have additional photos of the handset, as pictured above where it can be seen being measured by a ruler and placed beside a coin for size comparison. The design of the device is not too surprising and to be honest there’s really nothing new here as it seems to be more or less the Xperia Z, just shrunken down in size.

As far as its specs are concerned, assuming the device is indeed the international variant of the Xperia Z1 f, we can look forward to a 4.3” 720p HD display, a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, a 20.7MP rear-facing camera, with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running the show. We would have preferred if it came with Android 4.4 KitKat on board, but hopefully Sony will release an update soon.  Still no word on when the handset will be announced, but given the leaks we’ve seen so far, hopefully it won’t be too long before we hear the official news.

Sony Xperia Z1 Gets Update, Rear Camera Sees Improvement

Sony Xperia Z1 Gets Update, Rear Camera Sees ImprovementThe Sony Xperia Z1 is no pushover as a smartphone, especially when you consider its flagship credentials. Having said that, this waterproof smartphone has just received an update that has been said to deliver an improvement to its rear camera, not that the back camera in the past was a slouch or anything like it. Apparently, this new firmware update has introduced an algorithm that will enhance the performance of the camera, where it the same improvements have been sent over to the likes of Burst Mode, Superior Auto, AR Effect and Sweep Panorama.

This particular update started to roll out globally already, and the image above hails from a Dutch Sony Xperia Z1 owner, where it depicted the difference between the quality of photographs taken before and of course, right after the update. Needless to say, the update lets the camera capture an even greater amount of detail, even when there are shadows around. Not only that, it does seem that there has been improvements made to the color reproduction and contrast areas, too.

Well, all I can say is, there has been no adverse reports after installing this particular update, so if you’re a proud Xperia Z1 owner, it would do you good to have the update installed, too.

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Receives Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Firmware Update

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Receives Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Firmware UpdateIf there is one major advantage underneath the hood of modern day smartphones, I would like to say that it is this – the fact that one is able to introduce firmware updates into the mix to, in essence, enhance or prolong the lifespan of the handset in the market is a good thing. The recently reviewed Sony Xperia Z1 as well as the larger sized Xperia Z Ultra have been said to be on the receiving end of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, where this update would introduce some improvements in the display as well as helping make the battery last a whole lot longer.

In the Sony Xperia Z1, the camera algorithm has already been tweaked to deliver better all-round performance. Not only that, it has refined Sony’s Smart Social Camera platform in order for Xperia Camera apps to run in a whole lot more smoothly (in particular Burst Mode, Superior Auto, AR Effect and Sweep Panorama), while the Xperia Z Ultra features optimized touchscreen sensitivity that would cater for both finger gestures and writing, “sketching” with pencils, metal pens and selected styluses.

In terms of improvements made to both devices, their respective displays have been re-calibrated so that the viewing experience remains bright and bold, in addition to a better battery economy for a superior battery life. There is also a streamlined Exchange connection for faster email synchronization, display and download. So far, we have not heard reports of any of the smartphones crashing after installing the firmware update, so it should be all systems go if you own either one of them! [Press Release]
