Sony Xperia ‘Mint’ leaked and reviewed: 4.3-inch (?) HD screen, 13MP camera, 1.5GHz S4 processor

Sony Xperia 'Mint' leaked and reviewed 43inch screen, 13MP camera, 15GHz S4 processor

While we’ve been fussing over the Xperia GX (aka the LT29i), it seems Sony’s been working on something one integer higher. Mobile-review has published a run-down of a device it claims is called the LT30p — aka the Mint we first heard of back in January — which also appears to possess many of the specs we’d want from a high-end phone. The front side hosts a 1280 x 720 4.3-inch LCD, while the rear boasts the same 13-megapixel camera as the GX, and there’s a microSD slot on the side too. Internally, Mobile-review says ICS is running off a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which all sounds healthy enough — but since the build quality looks a bit suspect and we don’t know for sure that this is a final production handset, we’ll wait for IFA fever to paint a fuller picture.

Update: Although Mobile-review says it has a 4.3-inch screen, a side-by-side photo with the GS III after the break suggests the Mint’s panel may be slightly larger than that.

FCC Fridays July 20, 2012

We here at Engadget tend to spend a lot of way too much time poring over the latest FCC filings, be it on the net or directly on the ol’ Federal Communications Commission’s site. Since we couldn’t possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there individually, we’ve gathered up an exhaustive listing of every phone and / or tablet getting the stamp of approval over the last week. Enjoy!

Xperia GX goes through federal inspection, is still the Sony phone we want

Xperia GX goes through federal inspection, is still the Sony phone we want

Sony’s forthcoming 4.6-inch Android ICS slab has appeared at the FCC, and has revealed a few more details on what appears to be the company’s next flagship smartphone. The highlight of the federal-sanctioned autopsy of the Xperia GX reveals an interesting point; a pentaband 3G radios capable of HSPA speeds, something that’s still a rarity among global smartphones. The filing otherwise offers up a not-so-thrilling glimpse at the hardware labeling and, well, not much else. See for yourself at the link below.

CyanogenMod 10 Alpha arriving on Sony Xperia family soon

If you happen to own a smartphone from the Sony Xperia range and love tinkering around with the operating system in the form of a custom ROM, here is a wee bit of news to perk you up this evening. Word on the street has it that CyanogenMod 10 Alpha is well on its way to the range of Sony Xperia handsets. One of the more recent changelogs from the Free Xperia team of developers do point towards the latest version known as FXP130, where it will include CyanogenMod 10 Alpha. No download links have appeared, but it seems that someone dug up something from the XDA Developers forum which might just be the answer to that niggling question. Has anyone given CyanogenMod 10 Alpha a go yet, and how do you find it so far? Is it stable enough for everyday use?

Sony delivers Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U smartphones to the US

At long last, Sony Mobile Communications has delivered their Xperia NXT range of smartphones to the US, coming in the form of the Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U. The rest of the world has more or less gotten a good look at them for some time now, with happy owners of the respective smartphones, so to see these devices arrive Stateside is a relief to all you who have been waiting for the longest time.

We have covered the details of these handsets in the past, and just to get a better idea on pricing and colors which they come in, read on. All of the handsets with the prices quoted here might sound far higher than what you are normally used to, but that is because they are not subsidized in any way, coming in an unlocked form factor so that you need not get tied down to any long term contract.

The Xperia S will come in black or white shades at $559.99, while the Xperia P is more affordable at $479.99, where you can choose from silver, red or black colors. The cheapest model of the lot? The black or white Xperia U.

Sony Xperia tipo sidles into the FCC, inspires yawns

Sony Xperia tipo sidles into the FCC, inspires yawns

Another day, another FCC filing. This time, though, the documents on offer aren’t tipping us off to the impending arrival of some wunderphone — it’s just Sony’s recently outed Xperia tipo. The diminutive 3.2-incher — set for an official Euro bow this August — is no screamer with its 480 x 320 TFT display and lone 800MHz Snapdragon CPU. The ICS handset’s real claim to fame is its availability in single- and dual-SIM flavors. And based on the radios outlined in the corresponding Commission docs — GPRS/EDGE/GSM 850 and 1900; WCDMA 850 and 1900 — this modest phone could see a low-end berth on AT&T. Excited? Neither are we. Still, you can peruse the user manual, take a tour of the phone’s inner workings and parse through dense legalese at the source link below.

Sony’s upcoming ST26i smartphone could hit the market under Xperia J name

Sony's upcoming ST26i smartphone rumored to hit the market under Xperia J name

As is often the case, once you make your first unannounced, unexpected appearance, more are likely soon to follow — and that’s what’s happening with Sony’s forthcoming slab, the codenamed ST26i. Unlike last time we saw it in most of its glory, though, now it’s only showing up in full text mode, revealing what could be its official moniker once it finally launches. According to a leaked doc acquired by the folks from Xperia Blog, Sony’s purported 4-inch handset could snatch up the Xperia J nametag after making the transition from the more subtle and discrete ST26i title. Unfortunately, no other fruitful details were revealed in the process, but something tells us now it’s only a matter of time before this ICS-filled Xperia J gets past its rumor phase and becomes something more concrete.
