Jet Capsule Boat Looks Ready to Take off into Space

While this capsule won’t actually launch you into space, it will take you wherever you need to go fast, if you’re going over water that is. The Jet Capsule uses a propulsion system that is akin to jet skis, and I’m sure they will start zipping around marinas everywhere pretty soon.

The Jet Capsule measures 24 feet in length, and with the amount of money you pay for it, you can customize it to your heart’s desire. It uses a propulsion system that can have up to two engines producing 350hp each, giving a top speed of 57 mph.

You’ll have to pay $250,000 and more to get your own. You’ll have to decide whether to use it to ferry to your passengers to your super yacht or use it as a mini-yacht itself.

Gran Turismo Trimaran Takes to the Open Water, Not the Race Track

This concept trimaran will most probably able to smoke every boat in your local bay, assuming it ever gets made. It should be able to go fast since its designed to minimize the amount of boat surface touching the water as it picks up speed.

The Gran Turismo Trimaran was designed by Clemens Auer, and it was inspired by classic cars. The front half reminds me of the wings of cars from the 1930s, while the back has a similar shape to lat 1960s/early 1970s muscle cars. It was conceived with plenty of different finishes and exaggerated features to keep everyone happy.

It’s a concept for now, and was originally designed back in 2008. Maybe at some point, someone will want to make this dramatic boat.

Steve Jobs’ Venus yacht shown in fresh footage

Steve Jobs’ yacht, the Starck-designed Venus, hasn’t had an easy time over the holidays, impounded in Amsterdam over unpaid bills, but that gave harbor hunters a chance to snap some new video of the crisp-edged craft. Michiel Frackers took a post-Christmas walk to the former container terminal where Venus was being held, and rather fittingly used an iPhone 5 to film the distinctive yacht as it was being tended to by crew.

“There were a few people on board cleaning the upper deck, but there was nobody else around” Frackers said of Venus. He also spoke up in the yacht’s defense, after criticism from some quarters as to Jobs’ and Starck’s pared-back aesthetic, arguing that “it’s a very unique design that looks much better up close than in pictures or even in a video.”

Custom-designed for the former Apple CEO, Venus is 260ft long and was constructed by Feadship in the Netherlands at a cost of more than €100m ($133m). €9m of that was French designer Philippe Starck’s fee, an unpaid €3m of which caused authorities to impound the yacht before Christmas.

A swiftly identified security deposit lurking in a bank account saw Venus freed after five contentious days, though exactly what will happen to the craft is unclear. More on Venus’ specifications (and iMac-filled interior) here.

[Thanks Toby!]

Steve Jobs’s Yacht Now Free To Go Home

yatcht Steve Jobs’s Yacht Now Free To Go HomeIt was just last week when we said that Steve Jobs’s yacht named “Venus” was impounded in Amsterdam because of some money matters that have yet to be settled between Steve Jobs and designer Philippe Starck. Well, after hitting the headlines, Steve Jobs’s estate has paid a deposit to Starck on Monday to settle the dispute. Hague lawyer Gerard Moussault told AFP on Monday that “Venus” is no longer impounded and that the dispute has been resolved. (more…)

Steve Jobs Venus Yacht: Not Yet Available at the Apple Store

I have never been one for boats or yachts, but even I could be persuaded to give yacht-life a try in this magnificent vessel that was co-designed by the Apple-master himself, Steve Jobs. This was the boat that Steve Jobs was working on until his untimely death in 2011.

Venus was a collaborative effort between Steve Jobs and Philippe Starck, and it measures over 230 feet in length. Just like your MacBook Pro, it’s has an aluminum shell. The interior cabin is equipped with a set-up of seven 27-inch iMacs for its control room.

I wonder if they’ve upgraded to the new iMac that will be released shortly. The yacht is akin to an Apple store, with large windows, almost from floor to ceiling. The main living area has walls of glass that are forty feet long and ten feet high (!).

Venus finally made its maiden appearance in the city of Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. If you’re wondering how much Venus cost to build, it’s way more money than you could ever afford.

Steve Jobs’ yacht makes its first official appearance

Back in April we mentioned that word surfaced that designer Philippe Starck was working on a project for Apple. The fact that the famous designer was working on a project by Apple was quickly denied by Starck himself who admitted that he was working on a project involving Steve Jobs’ private yacht. The yacht has been under construction by a Dutch company known for custom yachts called Feadship.

The private yacht is now apparently complete and has been spied for the first time in the Dutch city of Aalsmeer. The gigantic boat certainly looks like something Steve Jobs would have designed with a minimalist look, lots of glass, and very clean lines. The yacht has reportedly been christened the Venus.

It rather looks like a floating Apple Store with lots of glass and shiny metal. The yacht appears to be quite massive dwarfing the people around it looking more like a cruise ship than a personal yacht. The Jobs family was said to be on hand for the unveiling of the massive ship measuring 80 m long.

Naturally, the command deck of the ship where the controls are housed uses iMac computers to show virtual gauges. There are seven of the 27-inch iMac computers in the wheelhouse. I’ve seen some impressive yachts over the years packed with technology, but the Venus is certainly my favorite.

The Expandable Wider Yacht: Transformer of the Sea

Ever wanted a yacht? How about one that works like a Transformer? This new yacht expands so that you can enjoy it even more. Once fully-deployed, this yacht ends up with a walkable surface of 193.5 square feet with a width of 21.6 feet, which was apparently unthinkable a couple of years ago for a 42 foot yacht.

The Wider Yacht’s transformable cockpit was designed by Tilli Antonelli, and its automatic operation makes it possible to have a large surface area without having a very big boat. It’s fast and luxurious as well. Super yachts beware! The Wider Yacht is lightweight and was built using new vacuum infusion molding techniques for carbon, something that’s also used in aerospace and Formula 1 racing.

Antagonist luxury wooden yacht is too James Bond-ish

The photo that you are seeing above isn’t taken from a sci-fi movie set or a James Bond movie. It’s actually a real yacht designed by the luxury yacht producer Art of Kinetik. The Serbian manufacturer of luxury wooden pleasure yachts has recently unveiled Antagonist, a 37 foot open weekend cruiser that is powered by two diesel-fueled Yanmar engines, boasting speeds up to 33 knots. Antagonist features a large open cockpit that provides space for up to 8 people.

The wooden yacht also has a spacious sunbathing area and a built-in swimming platform. Inside the Antagonist, you will find a large air-conditioned interior with storage space, bathroom, cushioned seating and wooden work bench. The interior is also fitted with designer fabrics and mood lighting. Pricing has yet to be announced, although we expect it to be equally luxurious as well. Art of Kinetik is planning to launch the Antagonist this summer.
