Arc Mouse Lets You Aim Away on Curved Surfaces

I have nothing against touchpads on laptops, but they aren’t exactly the easiest things to use, especially when you’re editing or cropping images. Now portable mice do fine, but they’re not the most convenient things to use if you’re left to work without a surface. I’ve tried using my regular mouse on my leg while my laptop was propped on my lap when I was rushing to meet a deadline. Let me just say the mouse slipped a couple of times and the people around me weren’t very impressed with my random yelps, gasps, and occasional curses.

In situations like this when you have to use your laptop and your mouse on a curved surface, then the Arc Mouse would be perfect.

Arc Mouse1

The mouse is curved in form, so you can use it on your leg or the padded armrest of an arm chair with ease. It doesn’t look like it would be very useful if you’re using it on a normal flat surface, so it’s probably best to use and take along when you’re working out of the office.

The Arc Mouse is a concept design by Seunghoon Shin and Chang Seok Kim, which also happens to be a 2012 IDEA Awards entry. And yes, I know that Microsoft already has a mouse with the same name, but that’s where the similarities end.

Only Pet Poop Can Be Disposed in the Curve Trash Bin

A lot of pet owners have the nasty habit of not cleaning up after their animals. It’s annoying, it’s impolite, and it’s especially irritating to the people who end up stepping on the dog doo. Some countries have resorted to setting up separate bins for people to dispose of their dog’s wastes, but many mistake it as being a regular old trash can and instead fill it up with all sorts of other trash, leaving no room for its intended contents.

So to solve this problem, Ben Koros came up with the Curve trash bin concept. It looks like a typical trash can, only its fitted with a cover that’s got a special, curved slot that pet owners have to trace with their packages of pet poop before they can drop it into the bin. This way, other larger-sized trash like bottles or cans won’t fit and fill the Curve bin up, and it’ll also keep the stinky bags of poo deep inside the bin.

Poo Curve Disposal

Koros says: “The user must pick up the poo, place it in a plastic bag (biologically degradable plastic bags included on the Curve), and lead it through a curvy gap on the top, to be able to dump it.”

It’s a smart idea, and hopefully, we’ll start to see the Curve trash bin pop up at parks and on city streets in the near future.

ES Pipe Waterwheel turns generates electricity from your taps [concept]

If you’re looking for ways to generate electricity using your water taps, Ryan Jongwoo Choi has got the answer for you. Called the ES Pipe Waterwheel, it is essentially a mini turbine that harnesses hydropower from regular water taps and converts it into energy for lighting up specially designed light bulbs. It is an intended solution for places with access to water but no electricity though I see it more as an emergency light source for places that frequently run into blackouts. I’m not sure how efficient this waterwheel is in practice, but it is a pretty cool, and environmental friendly idea. Let’s just hope that people don’t purposely leave their taps running for the sake of having free lights. Watch the video demonstration above.
