Custom Steampunk Link Action Figure (Hy)rules

This awesome custom Link action figure has it all. Look out Ganon. You are about to have a very bad day. This amazing custom figure was made by KodyKoala, who wanted to explore what the Zelda games would be like if they were set in a steampunk universe.

After seeing this, I believe that he should be the one to populate that universe. He wanted to make a futuristic Link, but still keep some of the classic things that we all love. He also wanted to have a fun way for Link to carry all of his inventory. It looks like Link has about fifty some items he is carrying here.

It took a lot of parts, so it ended up being a more expensive than he wanted. But that is why it looks so good. This figures stands about 6 inches tall. You can buy it for $300(USD) in his Etsy shop.

Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker HD Wii U Deluxe bundle leaked, teases gold trim

Legend of Zelda Wii U Deluxe bundle leaked, teases gold trim

Waiting for the Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker HD before picking up a Wii U? You’re in luck — the company seems to be prepping a bundle specifically for Hylian-minded buyers. NeoGAF users have salvaged an image of the special edition console from a trailer Nintendo posted to its YouTube channel and then immediately pulled. The video, which showed off the game’s “hero mode” difficulty setting, teased a black Wii U gamepad decorated a golden Triforce and other Zelda inspired accents. The leak doesn’t say much else about the hardware, but it’s probably safe to assume that the black console matches the 32GB internals of the standard deluxe edition. Price, availability and additional information will have to wait until Nintendo makes this bundle official, but curious folks can find a mirror of the leaked trailer at the source.

Zelda Rupee Soap: Be Clean and Rich

Saving the princess from danger is no good if you stink when you get there. It’s stinky to go alone, so take these Legend of Zelda themed rupee soap bars and smell like a million rupees.

Each set comes with four differently colored rupee soap bars: purple, red, blue and green. You will have rupees to make you feel rich and you will be clean. You can choose from several fragrances too. Would you rather be that sweet smelling guy who saved the princess, or that foul smelling guy who rescued her, but made her pass out?

It is just $5(USD) from Etsy seller smallthingsforsale. That’s hardly any rupees at all.

Not sure what that works out to in rupees though.

Fan-made Stop-Motion Zelda Movie Is Pretty Entertaining

The previous Zelda fan-made movie we saw was pretty impressive, but if you’d rather not see cosplayers battling each other, perhaps this new Zelda movie might be of interest to you. It does not feature regular people cosplaying as characters […]

UK Town Turned into a Level from Zelda

The UK town of Ipswich has an odd name, but that’s not what concerns us here. The town hosts an annual music and arts festival known as Switch Fringe, and this year there is a special addition to the program book. An 8-bit map of the town – from Zelda!

Sound crazy? It is. The Decibel Kid designed it. He turned the entire town of Ipswich into a Zelda level. Pretty novel idea for this years event. But there is more than just this image. If you want, you can view a digital version of the map and zoom around to see all the fun details. If you look closely, you’ll even find Link wandering around the festival.

Too bad the level isn’t playable.

Cities are awesome when they look like games. Ipswich is my new favorite UK town.

Legend of Zelda Quilt: It’s Dangerous to Nap Alone, Take This!

In all honesty, it’s been a while since I dusted off my original NES copy of The Legend of Zelda, but it’s still one of the all time classic video games, IMHO. But even if you don’t play the game regularly, you could have a daily reminder of Link’s adventures thanks to this awesome Legend of Zelda quilt.

Every time you lie down on the couch to take a nap, you could snuggle up under this hand-pieced quilt by artist Kelly Jaworski. It features a detailed pixel art image of Link, and is surrounded by triangular pieces of fabric, shaped like Triforces.

The small version of the quilt measures about 3.5 x 4.5 ft and sells for $199 (USD), while the queen-size (5.5 x 7.5 ft) version goes for $299. I wonder how many rupees that is.

Each one is backed with soft flannel to help keep you warm during long quests through Hyrule.

Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma on the Wii U’s stumbles, Virtual Console support and a ‘need to evolve’

Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma on the future of Zelda, the Wii U's stumbles and a 'need to evolve'

It’s cool to be different. That’s the message we typically feed our children when they come up against peer opposition. It’s also an attitude Nintendo’s adopted time and time again when its penchant for innovation, aversion to hardcore gameplay and reliance on classic franchises have put the company in a perceived last place position. But, as it’s continually proven — and most successfully with the Wii — you can’t ever definitively count the Mario hitmaker out. There always seems to be an ace in the company’s IP sleeve that keeps bringing gamers and its diehard fanbase back to the fold. But we have to wonder: how long will that last? It’s a question we posed directly to Eiji Aonuma, Nintendo’s Most Valuable Player #2 and Zelda mastermind, this week at E3. And his answer might surprise you: “If we don’t change we might die. We need to evolve. Things need to change. Things need to grow.” It’s a sobering admission, especially considering the source.

“If we don’t change we might die. We need to evolve. Things need to change. Things need to grow.”

The IP ace this time around falls upon the Zelda franchises’ shoulders, except not in the way we’ve come to expect. The two newest titles in the series, headed to the 3DS and Wii U, also happen to be recycled efforts: a reimagining of A Link to the Past and an HD reboot of the Wind Waker, both headed up by Aonuma. Perhaps it’s just a consequence of franchise fatigue and player familiarity, but there’s something more alarming, more distressing about this back catalog mining; something Aonuma’s all too aware of. It’s also something he’s actively steering his production teams away from, while at the same time attempting to take it all in as a greater lesson for a company so tethered to video gaming past. So to catch some deeper perspective on Nintendo’s next-gen leanings, its level of self-awareness and the future of Zelda, we sat down with Aonuma for what turned out to be an honest and refreshing chat.

The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker HD launches in October, boasts faster sailing

Looking for a new Zelda game for your Wii U? Nintendo hasn’t quite spilled the beans on that one, but it has given us some additional details about the system’s upcoming Gamecube remake: The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker HD will hit stores this October. Naturally, Nintendo boasted that the game would be rendered in 1080p, justifying the “HD” part of the game’s title, but the company saw fit to patch some of the original game’s non-visual shortcomings, too — lightly teasing itself for the Gamecube release’s long and dull sailing segments. The fix, apparently, was numbingly simple: hold the A button to sail faster.

Satoru Iwata also explained that they also had to tweak a few mechanics to get it ready for the Wii U, namely replacing the GBA-link Tingle Tuner mode for the original game with a “Tingle Bottle,” which allows users to send messages in a bottle via Miiverse. Unfortunately, that’s all Nintendo had to say about the Zelda franchise. Is a Wind Waker remake enough to tide fans over until the Wii U gets an original Zelda game? Let us know what you think — we do have a comments section, after all.
