The Walking Dead Grate Prank was a Great Prank

There have been quite a few pranks being played of late in an effort to scare the crap out of hapless passersby who are off in their own worlds. I particularly liked the prank with the devil baby for the flick Devil’s Due.

To promote one of my all-time favorite shows, The Walking Dead, AMC got a horde of walkers together and had them stand under one of those grates on the sidewalks of New York to scare the crap out of people. They probably also got to view some upskirts along the way. I can’t help but wonder how none of the zombies got their hands crushed.

When people walked by their hands poked out of the grate and scared the crap out of everyone. You need to watch the video for yourself, it is hilarious.

NAX 2.0 Can Slice and Dice Zombies and Still Open Your Beer

ThinkGeek is intent on getting us all ready for the zombie apocalypse. They will sell you the Crovel or Crovel II which will certainly come in handy to take on the zombie hoard. A new tool has turned up that looks even more impressive than the Crovel, called the NAX 2.0.

The NAX 2.0 is a multitool that can function as a hatchet, machete, and a kukuri knife. I don’t know what that last one is, but it sounds really cool. The handle of the NAX 2.0 can be used as a pry bar so you can open any wood crates of Twinkies you might run across.

The handle also has a bottle opener, which is key to surviving the zombie apocalypse. Few things are worse than running across the last beer in the world and not having a bottle opener. The handle also has a gas shut off wrench, I guess that will help to burn up some zombies or cook Ramen soup to enjoy with your beer. Plus, the handle is wrapped in 550 paracord, which is perfect for setting booby traps and strangling the undead.

The Nax 2.0 is available from ThinkGeek for $149.99(USD).

Daryl Dixon Walking Dead Action Figure Includes Crossbow, No Hog

One of my favorite TV shows is The Walking Dead. I’d be hard-pressed to choose my favorite character from the series, but Daryl Dixon is right up there. The dude uses a crossbow and is generally a bad-ass. I think the crossbow would be a great weapon in a zombie invasion; you can reuse the bolts if you can find them, and it’s virtually silent.

That means no gun shots for the other zombies to home in on. If you are a fan of Daryl Dixon, you might want to add this slick 10-inch action figure to your collection. The action figure is based on a 3D scan of actor Norman Reedus, who plays Dixon in the series.

The action figure has the trusty crossbow, three tiny bolts, and a removable poncho. It even includes a hunting knife. It’s officially licensed by AMC and is available for $39.99 (USD) from ThinkGeek. The only thing missing is Daryl’s hog.

Crovel Extreme II Ready for More Zombie Killin’

Way back in 2011 I wrote a little story about a product that was perfect for surviving a zombie horde called the Crovel. That story set off a tirade by several folks about what was the perfect tool for zombie killing and what wasn’t. I still think that Crovel belongs in the backpack of any zombie killer. A new version of that cool tool is now available at ThinkGeek.

The new tool is called the Crovel Extreme II, and its more extreme-e-er than the original. The little folding beast still digs thanks to a folding shovel head. It also has a serrated edge for cutting trees and zombie skulls. It even has a bottle opener to ensure you can enjoy that last Corona if you run across one. After all, zombie killing works up a mean thirst.

crovel e ii 2 300x250

The handle of the Crovel Extreme II is wrapped in 15-feet of 550 paracord and it has a crow bar on one end. That will come in handy for things like ripping open doors and crushing zombie skulls. My favorite part is the optional metal spike on the end perfect for punching through the eyes of the undead (as well as ice, rocks and drywall.)

The Crovel Extreme II sells for $139.99(USD), with the spike adding another $29.99, and an optional carrying bag for $42.99.

The Map of Zombies Cuts up Animated Corpses into Over 350 Types

Jason Thompson – the same artist who made the excellent Dungeons & Dragons Walkthrough Maps – made what he calls The Map of Zombies. Jason drew the 25″ x 36″ poster in the style of an old medical chart. It has over 350 types of zombies, ending in specific media where that particular zombie is mentioned, such as a book, a movie, a game or a TV show.

Zombie Horse Cake Looks Disgustingly Delicious

This awesome zombie cake looks terrifying. Terrifyingly delicious. I would love to get a slice of that rotting flesh and bone. This undeadible masterpiece was created by the Tattooed Bakers for the opening of Miss Cakehead’s Feed the Beast cake shop.

The horse of the apocalypse is a red velvet cake that took over 200 hours to complete. It’s got some really nice detail on its festering wounds. What makes this cake even better is that it pours a circulating fountain of rum out of its nostrils and into a cauldron.

devil horse cake 2 620x930magnify

Cake and rum? From a horse? How awesome is that? Eat, drink, then eat some more, then drink some more and sooner or later you will be on top of this cake trying to ride it and slipping all over the place from the icing. Then breaking it in half and falling on the floor. Sugar and rum are a powerful combination.

Zombie Head Kettle Bells: Undead for the Unfit

If you are looking to get in shape and have a constant reminder of why you are bothering (the impending zombie apocalypse) try these awesome zombie head kettle bells.

zombie kettle bells 1 620x490magnify

They come in 18, 36, 54 and 72-lb weights and each has a different zombie head. If you are going to workout and get those muscles ready for swinging an axe or hammer at the undead, you might as well look at their faces while you are getting buff.

Bonus: If you don’t get entirely ripped from your workout with these kettle bells, or have just been too lazy to use them as they sit on your floor, you can use them as weapons. I’m sure that with enough force these will crack through the side of a zombie head like Gallagher smashing through a watermelon.

They will cost you $42.95 to $169.95(USD) each, or $406.41 for the complete set.

A Surprise to No One: The Walking Dead Gets Picked up for a Fifth Season

The highest-rated television show on TV right now is AMC’s The Walking Dead. It’s a fantastic show and easily my favorite on television right now. If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, you’ll be glad to hear that AMC has already renewed the show for fifth season coming in 2014. Not that it’s a surprise to anyone – I suspect the show will be renewed for many years to come.

the walking dead 620x393magnify

AMC also announced that the current executive producer of The Walking Dead, Scott M. Gimple, will also return in the same position for the show’s fifth season.

“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season,” AMC president Charlie Collier said Tuesday. “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season-four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest nonsports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”

I mentioned not long ago that there would be a The Walking Dead companion series coming in 2015. Details on that show are still unclear, but we do know that it will follow a different set of survivors. Whether there will be any cross over with the current cast is yet to be known.

Hyundai Adds Santa Fe to Walking Dead Zombie Survival Fleet

A year after showing off Robert Kirkman’s Zombie Survival Elantra, and just months after their Veloster Zombie Survival Machine, Hyundai is at New York Comic Con, where they’re showing off the Hyundai Santa Fe Zombie Survival Machine.

This vehicle was selected from 82,500 vehicle concepts that were created using The Walking Dead Chop Shop app. The app allowed fans to create the vehicle they thought would be best to roam the zombie wasteland in. The winner was Anson Kuo’s modified Santa Fe, called the Santa Fleeeee, seen below:

It was brought to life with the help of Galpin Auto Sports. The vehicle has everything you would need to take on the horde: knife blades, an automatic crossbow, razor-wired windows, three machine guns, a samurai sword, aluminum armor and even a silencer for the muffler. If you are attending NYCC this week, you will be able to see the car in person and even get behind the wheel for photo ops.

It is at booth #542. Awesome. Zombies don’t stand a chance.

Awesome Zombie Jack-o’-Lanterns: The Carving Dead

With October here, Halloween is nearly upon us and it’s high time that you get to carving your geeky jack-o’-lantern. This year we ran across some really cool zombie-themed pumpkins and some of them are downright creepy.

zp 3magnify

One of the things I like about these carvings is that they all appear to be made exclusively from pumpkins. I can only imagine how long it took to carve some of these, particularly the heavily detailed faces of some in the pictures in the gallery.

I think the creepiest is the pumpkin that is turned on its side. It looks like some sort of demented zombie piranha. I also particularly like the one that’s carved to look like a zombie hanging from the end of a noose. The detail work on that carving is incredible. Which one is your favorite?
