A Weaponized Toilet Brush Crossbow Can Really Clean Up

When Joerg made metal-tipped toilet brushes a couple of months ago I’m pretty sure we were all thinking that they looked pretty tame. Okay, true, they violently annihilated a coconut suspended in ballistic gelatin, but they weren’t horrifying, just chillingly effective. But a four shot repeating "monster" crossbow. That would be scary. And that’s what we have here.

The Slingshot Madman Has Perfected the Zombie Capture Kit

Some people devote their lives to science, some to religion, some to high finance. And then there’s Joerg Sprave, who spends his day-to-day creating zombie-killing slingshot insanity. Or in this case, zombie-capturing slingshot insanity, for when you need to to take them in alive undead.

Left 4 Dead 2 mutates past Linux beta, adds more mod tools

DNP Left 4 Dead 2 mutates beyond Linux beta, adds more mod tools

Left 4 Dead 2 is the latest game in Valve’s catalog to clamber out of the Steam for Linux beta. Unlike last week’s Half-Life 2 news however, the extra something coming along for the ride isn’t VR headset support — it’s a powerful suite of customization tools. The Extended Mutation System (EMS) gives the already robust modding community additional options for crafting one-off episodes and game type variants. For a glimpse of what EMS enables, play a round of “Holdout.” This new multi-map mode introduces buildable items and the concept of resources to the co-op zombie-slaying calamity. What’s more, Valve said it will add the most popular EMS creations to the official servers. Maybe with this, the world can finally witness our vision of the zombie apocalypse. Yeah, it involves marmosets.

Black Ops 2 Uprising’s Mob Of The Dead Highlighted In New Trailer

Activision and Treyarch announced last week it would be delivering a new map pack for its Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 called Uprising. The map pack will come with four new multiplayer maps and an all-new co-op zombies campaign called Mob of the Dead. The new zombies campaign will star four iconic actors who have performed numerous mobster roles, which is why both Activision and Treyarch decided to highlight Mob of the Dead in a new trailer.

Mob of the Dead stars the voices and the likenesses of Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Michael Madsen and Joe Pantoliano as they play four mobsters who find themselves trapped on Alcatraz Island. Lucky for them, they’re not alone, as the entire island has been overrun with zombies who want nothing more than have a meatball sub with the mobsters’ brains. (more…)

What The Special Effects in The Walking Dead Looks Like

Unlike other shows who sneakily add special effects without you realizing, The Walking Dead is so overtly gruesome and bloody and gore-y that we’re completely aware that what we see is being spiced up with visual effects. Still, it’s awesome to see how the effects are added. Stargate Studios shows off the reel of effects it worked on for this past season 3 of The Walking Dead. Spoiler alerts, obv. More »

Dead Island: Riptide Gameplay Trailer Shows The Survivors In Trouble Again

Techland’s Dead Island was one of those underground hits that many people didn’t expect it to play as well as it did, and because of its success, the game will be getting a sequel called Dead Island: Riptide.

A new gameplay trailer called “They Thought Wrong” was released for Dead Island: Riptide that tells how it will link with the original game. In the trailer, we learn the original characters were rescued from Banoi at the end of the Dead Island, which we’re sure you already knew if you played through the game. Their “rescue” isn’t what they thought it would be as they’re immediately brought onto a military ship and placed under arrest.

While they’re being withheld, the survivors meet a soldier who is part of large humanitarian search and rescue operation. The trailer then describes how exactly the virus was released once again, which we’re sure is what you’ll be fighting against in Dead Island: Riptide. Unfortunately for the survivors, they land on a completely new island that is on the verge of being nuked.

And you thought you were having a rough day.

Watch the Canadian Parliament Hilariously Debate the Zombie Apocalypse

That’s it, I’m moving to Canada. They know how to have fun. Even in politics! In Canada’s House of Commons today, there was an incredible ‘debate’ about creating an international zombie strategy “so that a zombie invasion does not turn into a zombie apocalypse.” Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird told everyone that there was nothing to worry about because even though Canada is a friendly bunch, it will “never become a safe haven for zombies EVER.” Oh, Canada. Go Canada! [Macleans Magazine via BuzzFeed] More »

Altweek 110312 zombie animals, martian methane and self healing buildings

That said, science still provides us with a pretty big stick to whack many other problems with. After the break we look at how crumbling buildings could soon be self-healing, why some UK-based scientists think they are one step closer to answering the “is light made of waves or particles” quandary, and NASA reveals its latest results in the hunt for martian methane. Oh, and there’s some zombie animals too. This is alt-week.
