Not all computers are created equal, that is for sure. The thing is, we are more often than not familiar with a rectangular or square shaped PC chassis, although over the years, the designs of these rectangles and boxes have been refined, looking sleeker than ever before, while others will boast of a transparent display that lets you see what is going on within. With the ZBOX 01520 from ZOTAC, you know you are in for a treat since this is a special PC case that comes in the shape of an orb.
I suppose some other folks would describe the ZBOX 01520 to resemble that of the Google Nexus Q which did not really manage to live up to expectations, and had a really short shelf life actually. The thing is, this is no successor to the Google Nexus Q, but rather, it has all the innards of a standard issue computer to help you crunch figures as well as churn out reports on a word processor. Underneath the rounded chassis, the ZOTAC ZBOX 01520 will run on an Intel Core i3-4010U Haswell processor with Intel HD 4400 graphics, carry a quartet of USB 3.0 ports, has three USB 2.0 ports, sport 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, DisplayPort, and an SD memory card reader. There is no word on pricing or availability as at press time though.

Zotac has this media-friendly SFF computer thing pretty much nailed. For years the company has been churning out ever smaller machines purpose built for living rooms and media servers. The StreamBox and RAIDbox aren’t standalone computers, but accessories that build on the home theater capabilities of their ZBOX PCs. The StreamBox pushes content to your TV from a laptop, Android smartphone or tablet using DLNA or Miracast for mirroring your portable’s display. In addition to the 10/100 Ethernet jack and dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n radios, there’s also a USB port on board for connecting external storage devices. What kind of storage devices, you ask? Well, how about the USB 3.0 RAIDbox that was unveiled alongside the StreamBox. The box itself doesn’t ship with any drives inside, but you can slip in a pair of mSATA SSDs and it wont even require an external power supply. Sadly, the really important details like price and availability haven’t been announced, but you can still read the PR after the break.
