Verizon Turbine 7.0 could be ZTE V66 in disguise

You might want to strap on your seatbelts, as the ZTE 66 (which has already gone through the rigors at the FCC, only to get pictured afterwards) could very well be headed towards the folks over at Verizon Wireless, where it will be known as the Verizon Turbine .70. What you see above is an image that is part of a page that is residing somewhere underneath the labyrinth of pages inside Verizon’s internal system. It can be considered to be the confirmation of the ZTE V66 under the guise of the Verizon Turbine 7.0, where the latter is definitely a far more interesting name to roll off your tongue when someone asks you of the type of tablet that you are using.

Some of the rumored hardware specifications include a 7” display at 1,280 x 800 resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and a rather beefy 4,000mAh battery to keep it going. No idea on whether it will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box, or will you need to wait for an update from the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

How would you change the Pantech Burst?

How would you change

While ZTE and Huawei commence an assault on the high end of the market, companies like Pantech are nipping in behind to hoover up the budget space. When we reviewed the Pantech Burst, it was $50 on contract, but now can be picked up for $0.99. What do you get for less than a dollar? Stellar battery life (for an LTE phone), performance that easily matched a Samsung Skyrocket and LG Nitro HD more than compensate for its flaky capacitive buttons and weak camera. But, does the price justify turning a blind eye to its flaws? For a handset that costs less than a decent cup of coffee, what would you really change?

IDC: iPhone wait cuts Apple’s China phone share by nearly half, Lenovo seizes the opportunity

Lenovo LePhone K2 hands-on

There’s a lot of talk of a new iPhone coming soon, and the Chinese know it. IDC researchers estimate that Apple’s share of smartphones in the country was sliced almost in half during the second quarter, to 10 percent, as expectations and rumors led the local population to wait for the big update. Better competition also played a part in denting iPhone shipments, although it’s not Apple’s chief rival Samsung who’s responsible. Rather, it’s China’s own Lenovo that had the most impact. It broke into the double digits with a second-place 11 percent share thanks to recently started indirect sales of its Android-dominated lineup, while Samsung saw its own share dip slightly to 19 percent. Chinese companies ZTE and Huawei bracketed Apple at third and fifth. We wouldn’t be surprised if the balance of power shifts in about a month, but the impacts to Apple and Samsung alike show just how tough it can be to stay on top in one of the fastest-growing markets on Earth — especially one with so many local brands.

ZTE Concord arrives on T-Mobile

T-Mobile might not have the largest subscriber base in the US, but this does not mean that the carrier is a small fry in a large pond. No sir, the latest smartphone to join up with T-Mobile’s stable of handsets would be the ZTE Concord which is touted to come with its fair share of hardware specifications, although it will not have you run the risk of burning too large a hole in your pocket. Basically, the ZTE Concord will come with a 3.5″ display in addition to a 2-megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (oh why?), and 3G connectivity support (bear in mind that this is not HSPA+ we are talking about here). The thing is, we would have very much preferred to see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or newer run on the ZTE Concord right out of the box, but there is not much that can be done at the moment save to wait. Retailing for $99.99 a pop, will the presence of handsets like the ZTE Concord actually help boost the name and popularity of T-Mobile?

T-Mobile Concord hits 4G network for cheap

This week the folks at T-Mobile have announced a new smartphone for their 4G network with a low price and manufacturing done by none other than up-and-comer ZTE. This smartphone works with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has a lovely 3.5-inch touchscreen display, and has a 2-megapixel camera on the back. The highlight of this little beast is the fact that it’ll be available on a variety of contracts through T-Mobile and various retail partners.

With this device you’ll be grabbing a T-Mobile single-line, Monthly4G no annual contract plan. This plan has unlimted talk, text, and data (without a cap) and access to T-Mobile’s 4G data network. You’re able to pair this device with Walmart’s Family Mobile service as well for monthly payments. This Walmart Family Mobile plan will bring on no-annual-contract phone service with data for individuals as well as families – again, all powered by T-Mobile’s network across the USA.

You’ll be able to pick up the T-Mobile Concord smartphone at Target as well at Walmart starting on August 26th. This device will be available for $99.99 with a qualifying Monthly4G plan at Target and for $99.98 paired with a Walmart Family Mobile no annual contract plan at – you guessed it – Walmart.

This device is the next in a line of ZTE products being brought to the United States by the manufacturer in their effort to enter this lively mobile market. ZTE is responsible for a collection of fabulous and strangely enticing devices internationally, most of them running Android, and we’re more than ready to welcome them to the USA with open arms. More manufacturers means more competition and better devices in the end – lets go!

Check the timeline below for more ZTE action and prepare yourself for more products created by them but branded with the carrier their on here in the USA.

ZTE-made Concord arrives at T-Mobile and Walmart, caters to the starter crowd at $100 contract-free

ZTEmade Concord arrives at TMobile and Walmart, caters to the starter crowd at $100 contractfree

T-Mobile wants to offer as much of a lure to smartphone newcomers as to power users who might spring for its truly unlimited data, and the ZTE Concord might just be the right kind of bait. The truly 2010-vintage Android 2.3, 3.5-inch screen and 2-megapixel camera won’t get anyone’s pulse racing, but a $100 contract-free price is hard to ignore — even for the sort who’d otherwise be looking for a just-does-calls flip phone. Accordingly, the carrier plans to put the Concord in front of audiences that would rarely care to set foot in a dedicated cellphone store. Walmart is selling the phone today for those comfortable with a Walmart Family Mobile plan. If you’d rather show fealty to T-Mobile itself, you’ll have to swing through a Target store on or after August 26th.

ZTE’s alleged ‘Blade III’ smartphone gets photographed ahead of official announcement

ZTE's alleged 'Blade III' smartphone gets photographed ahead of official announcement

Let’s be honest, ZTE isn’t exactly the best at keeping its upcoming devices secretly under wraps before eventually making them official — and, well, such is the case with the latest, unannounced Blade III. Finnish retailer Verkkokauppa’s currently listing ZTE’s purported Blade III as a 3.5-inch (800 x 480) slab that’s sporting Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU (MSM7227A) and a 5-megapixel rear shooter. Still, as FoneArena points out, these alleged specs go against other rumors circulating around the web, which indicate the Blade III is boasting a 4-inch display rather than the smaller sized 3.5-incher listed on the Finnish site. Whatever it may be, let’s just hope ZTE’s next Android smartphone doesn’t come with any backdoor woes.

ZTE Blade III appears on Finland site

Finnish retailer Verkkokauppa.com might have missed the memo concerning the secrecy that was supposed to shroud the ZTE Blade III, considering how they have already shown off promotional images of this particular smartphone, not to mention the entire slew of hardware specifications for all and sundry to look at. The leaked ZTE Blade III images show off a curved, white design that is not too far off from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, where it is powered by the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, riding at the back of the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor complete with 512MB RAM. At the front lies a 3.5″ WVGA TFT display which is similar in size to the iPhone 4S, although I do not think that this has the pixel density of Apple’s smartphone.

Right at the back you will find a rather ordinary 5-megapixel shooter, making this more of a mid-range smartphone than anything else. Ah well, at least it runs on Ice Cream Sandwich, so you just need to wait for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, if it is coming the ZTE Blade III’s way. The asking price? €199 a pop. Do expect it to debut at IFA in Berlin next week.

MetroPCS reveals Samsung Galaxy S III as part of fall lineup

MetroPCS reveals Samsung Galaxy S III as part of fall lineup

Turns out the LG Motion 4G wasn’t all that MetroPCS had up its sleeve for reveal today, as the prepaid carrier separately let its new fall lineup slip, and wouldn’t you know it, among those devices is the Samsung Galaxy S III. Joining the superphone will be a smaller Sammy smartphone, and like the LG Connect 4G, it’ll support VoLTE — curious that the carrier isn’t touting the feature for the Galaxy S III, don’t you think? ZTE will also be making another go at MetroPCS, as an Android handset with a 4.3-inch screen is now in the cards, but other relevant specs remain sorely absent. Rounding out the lineup will be an import from Coolpad, which is said to wield a 4-inch screen and will retail for $149. According to Phone Scoop, we may see this one make an official debut later this week. Naturally, none of these slabs carry the same clout as the Galaxy S III, and if you’d like to get a bit more familiar with the soon-to-be premiere smartphone at MetroPCS, be sure to check out PC Magazine below, which managed to score a hands-on with the latest version of Samsung’s finest.
