If you use iGoogle as your personalized homepage, here’s a great little tip for you. Now you can change how many columns you’d like for each tab! I’m not sure when this feature was implemented, but it’s something that Google Blogoscoped just wrote about, and something I didn’t know was possible previously.
It’s pretty simple, all you have to do is click on the tab you’d like to edit. Then click the drop-down menu for the tab and you’ll notice an option that says “edit this tab.” From there you’ll be able to change the name, as well as the layout of the of tab. There are options for 1-4 columns, and multiple layouts available for the 2 column or 3 column category.
Click on the layout that suits your needs best, and then you’ll get a preview in the background of what it’ll look like. If you’re satisfied, just click “save” and you’re all set! I was pleasantly surprised when it showed me what it would look like in the background before I clicked save. Remember, you can change the layout for each individual tab that you have, the layout isn’t universal for every page.
