What were your favorite movies of 2010 so far? Did you think Inception lived up to all the hype? Or are you of the opinion that Scott Pilgrim was criminally ignored masterpiece of the summer? Was The A-Team a fitting tribute to the ’80s television program? All were great films. But for my money, the best film of 2010 has been Bouncing Water Droplet on a Superhydrophobic Carbon Nanotube Array.
This small indie short comes courtesy of California Institute of Technology researchers Adrianus Aria and Morteza Gharib. They used a high-speed camera to capture small droplets of water sliding, bouncing, and shimmying their way down a superhydrophobic (aka really hard to get wet) carbon nanotube surface.
The end result is a mesmerizing high-contrast water ballet starring little translucent globs. The graphics and words superimposed surely have some scientific or educational relevance, but for the most part they get in the way of the aqua acrobatics.
Water art is after the jump…
