A brawl that broke out at the end of a high school soccer game in Minnesota Thursday night has caused both the Minnesota State High School League and the Maple Grove police department to launch separate investigations into the incident.
Prairie Seeds Academy defeated Totino Grace 2-1 in a match to determine which team would advance to the state tournament, DeadSpin notes. Just moments before the end of the game, however, a fight broke out on the field.
Totino Grace co-captain Ryan Zurbay told Fox Twin Cities that the first punch was thrown in the final seconds of the game by a Prairie Seeds player. However, Prairie Seeds head coach and athletic director Youssef Darbaki said his players had reported hearing derogatory comments by the other team, which could explain what sparked the fight.
