Posted in: Today's ChiliIn just his second inning of World Series play, Carlos Beltran made exactly the sort of spectacular play that is fast making him an October legend. Unfortunately, it sent him to the hospital.
With the Red Sox threatening to end the competitive portion of Game 1 of the 2013 World Series early, Beltran reached over the wall in right-center field to rob David Ortiz of a grand slam in the second inning. Boston already held a 4-0 lead when Ortiz drove a four-seam fastball from Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright deep into right-center field toward the home bullpen. Not far from the spot where Detroit Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter tumbled over that same wall attempting to rob Ortiz of a grand slam in Game 2 of the ALCS, Beltran managed to snag the ball before it touched down beyond the chest-high barrier.
