Let’s face it. Speakers are some of the least visually-compelling objects you’ll find on an average desktop or bookshelf. I suppose that only makes sense, as sound was designed to be heard and not seen. That said, these speakers aim to add a little visual life to the boring old speaker cabinet.
ColorSonik’s new speakers feature vibrant see-through cabinets which will add a splash of color to any desktop, casting really cool color shadows onto their surroundings. Now before any of you treehuggers out there get upset that they’re made of plastic instead of wood, these speakers are crafted from recyclable, BPA-free polystyrene. Not that you plan on throwing them out any time soon anyhow.
Each speaker measures 4″(w) x 4″ (d) x 7.25″ (h), so they’re perfect alongside a computer monitor or on your bookshelf.
ColorSonik claims their speakers aren’t just about looks, and pack an nice punch when connected to your computer, media player, or other device with a 3.5mm output. They offer full-range drivers with self-shielded neodymium magnets. Frequency response for the speakers is rated at 65Hz to 18 kHz, and they’re powered by a 15-watts-per-channel of power, via a small, color-matched external amplifier box. There’s also an option for a Bluetooth receiver dongle.
ColorSonik speakers are available in six bright jeweltone colors at present, and sell for $249(USD) a pair, including the amplifier unit. The Bluetooth receiver add-on sells for $25.
