“Cougar Town” opened its scrapbook with a series of flashbacks showing how many of the members of the cul de sac crew first met. Apparently, everyone had a “meet-cute” except for Grayson and Jules. Only they did have one — it’s just that neither of them remembers. It was one of those random street encounters that people generally don’t think twice about.
Viewers learned that there was a time when Jules was a lot more like Bobby than she might have ever wanted to admit. Travis was very young and impressionable when he saw Laurie wrestling in water — the boy never stood a chance. Actually surprising, though, was learning that there was a time when Ellie worried she wasn’t good enough for Andy. She wasn’t always in complete and total control of that relationship.
Grayson was disappointed that he and Jules don’t have a “meet-cute,” but then the viewers got to see that they did. They bumped into each other on the street, dropping groceries. It was Grayson who gave Jules the bottle she used to befriend Ellie — and fall madly in love with wine.
