Hands up who knows the history of the QWERTY keyboard? How come the letters are set in such an apparently random order?

Well, some accuse the inventor, C. L. Sholes, of deliberately arranging keys awkwardly to slow down typists who were too fast for his typewriter and kept causing jams. He claimed however that it was simply to separate the most commonly used letters but whichever argument you believe, it’s done now, we’re used to it so let’s all just move on.

Unfortunately, every now and then some bright spark decides that the keyboard design we all know and love needs to be changed to make it ‘even easier to use’.
