Lenovo has launched the Legion G9, a new gaming controller designed to transform the recently released Legion Y700 Gen 4 tablet into a portable gaming console. This release is particularly notable for its integration of advanced features typically found in high-end gaming accessories, setting it apart from standard mobile gaming solutions. A more advanced version, the Legion G9 Pro, is also on the way, offering even more impressive specs.
Visually, the Legion G9 closely resembles the previously released Legion Go S, but comes in a lighter gray finish. It features asymmetrical button layout, much like Xbox controllers, and uses Hall effect analog sticks—a premium technology that enhances precision and significantly improves durability over traditional joystick mechanisms. These analog sticks reduce wear and tear and offer smoother, more accurate control, especially for fast-paced or competitive games.
One of the standout aspects of the G9 is its unique docking design. It securely attaches to the Y700 Gen 4 tablet without covering the speakers, ensuring that audio performance remains uncompromised. In addition, the controller features ventilation cutouts and uses heat-dissipating materials to help manage internal temperatures during extended gaming sessions. The controller connects via USB-C, which minimizes latency, offering a more responsive and fluid gaming experience.
In terms of functionality, the Legion G9 includes four rear programmable buttons, along with bumpers and Hall effect triggers, again emphasizing precision and long-term reliability. The controller also features RGB lighting strips for added visual flair and a dedicated app that allows users to customize button mappings, sensitivity settings, and create macros.
The Legion G9 Pro elevates the experience even further by incorporating a built-in audio system, vibration motors, and optical switches for the front buttons. These optical switches use light-based actuation to deliver faster input response and lower latency, giving gamers a competitive edge, especially in action and shooter games.
As of now, the Legion G9 is available in China for 399 yuan (approximately USD 55). The Pro version has not yet received a confirmed release date or price. While a global launch has not been officially announced, expectations are high, especially since the previous model received international distribution.
