Using a proprietary version of multi-peer Bluetooth, the Loopd iOs application allows users to search and connect with contacts within a few feet without using a GPS. As the example described in the video (see above), you can see who you know at a party and start a chat session on the spot, to find in which room your contact is. This could be very useful during large tech conferences, such as CES or MWC where unplanned meetings based on “real-time proximity” would be more efficient than scheduling meetings far away apart.
Loopd is launching the IOS app today and plans to unveil its wearable tech component in June. From my email conversation with CEO Brian Friedman, I learned that the upcoming loopd bracelet will use gesture to let people exchange their contact info with a simple handshake. I cannot wait to see and try this cool gadget!
