First lady Michelle Obama told the press today that daughters Sasha and Malia have been barred from using the popular social networking site, Facebook. The ban comes in part because the girls–aged nine and 12, respectively–have special Secret Service security concerns, given the fact that their dad is the most powerful person in the free world.
There are more personal reasons as well. The first lady added that she’s “not a big fan of young kids having Facebook.” She’ll reconsider the decision when the girls get older, but in the meantime, she’s standing firm in her opinion that Facebook is “not something they need.”
Besides, as the Associated Press points out, kids have to be at least 13 to sign up for the site.
