Netgear showed of a new line of 3G / LTE mobile broadband routers at the Mobile World Congress this week. The company claims that the new line of routers will allow users have a connection that acts like it is wired when the devices are using the Wi-Fi. No word on when the new line will come out.
The 3G/LTE line has four models, which will support WAN, wired 10/100 Fast Ethernet (FE), FE LAN, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Netgear did not say how much these new models will cost, but did claim that they could be the “holy grail” of mobile computing.
I am not sure how these will differ from previous Netgear routers. However, the name of the line makes me wonder if Netgear is trying to compete with phone service provider. Which is actually funny, since Wi-Fi is faster than 3G or 4G.
