A few years ago we posted an ad from a CompUSA store that reminded us what prices were like for laptops back in 1994. This was before the Internet really started to take off as a means to sell products, but these days a lot of people are turning to the web to save a few bucks.
Newegg is a mass electronics retailer that is available in the United States, Canada, and China. They’ve often been lauded for their awesome customer service and prices that are hard to beat anywhere else.
I thought it would be fun to see what the top 10 items were at Newegg’s online store from just a few weeks after they launched in 2001. Thanks to the WayBack Machine we were able to do this, and I think you’ll find the list just as interesting as I did:

That’s right… a 1GHZ processor for $193, 64MB Compact Flash card for $55, and a 40GB hard drive for $129. Ahh, those were the days. Now we carry devices in our pocket that have more processing power and storage than that!
