It may sound a bit silly, but seeing colors is actually kind of difficult. Yes, there are normal colors like green, red, and blue, but what happens when you start getting really particular? Say you want a color from a flower that grows in your back yard, but it’s not quite purple or blue. You can go to the store and pick up paint swatches, but even then, your eyes may misread the color, or the picture on your phone of it may not be the same hue. On top of all that, what if you’re color blind and don’t know it?
If you want to be really specific, you’d have to bring the paint swatch home, and hold it next to the flower. This is a long and arduous process, especially so for interior designers and artists who have to do this on a regular basis. It really is difficult to replicate one specific color. Of course, the Nix is hoping to make the lives of color-hunters far easier.
This is a little smartphone accessory that can pinpoint a color and help you find out where you can get a paint that matches. It’s small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and sports a flower design on top. It has it’s own light source, so all you need to do is open the app, place the Nix against whatever color you’re wanting to keep track of, and hit scan. The app will give you the precise color, let you take down notes with each scan, choose what the paint will be for (makeup, interior wall paint, automotive), and will help you pick brand and the nearest location to pick it up. This is a huge time-saver, and will only cost around $99. Considering the use it would see in the right hands, this is a pretty reasonable price point. It looks as though it charges via mini-USB, but there’s no mention as to how long or frequently you would need to charge it.
