While some are content to play a musical instrument that has been around for hundreds of years, some want to make new and innovative versions of sound creators. For those of you who enjoy making sounds that are more technologically based, there are a variety of options for setup. Maybe you use an old Gameboy, or find a way to integrate music boxes into sounding like something otherwordly.
If you like the idea of making music on anything and everything, then the Ototo will make your day. This is an all-in-one musical invention kit which uses a small synthesizer to let you make things great and small bend to your melodic will. Through connecting conductive materials on everything from an eggplant to a cardboard box, you could play Mozart and thoroughly confuse anyone nearby.
You’ll have a 12 key capacitive touch keyboard with connectors, 4 sensor inputs, a 5V analog input, an onboard speaker and audio jack, and it’s all powered by two AA batteries. There are various sensors that will allow things such as rotation, light, touch, force, breath, a joystick, and sliding your finger come into play with your sound. Of course, every different material you use will also vary the end result. This can act as a MIDI controller via USB, and will cost you around $88. Be mindful that this is a crowdfunding project, and some things may change as it comes to completion.
