Raise your hand if you remember the erasable pens. Sharpie’s Liquid Pencil flips this concept on its head as a permanent pencil. It’s quite appropriate for the permanent marker company to decide pencil scribblings can be permanent, too.
The Liquid Pencil contains an “ink” made from liquid graphite (as opposed to the solid soft kind that is inside a mechanical pencil). Once written, the graphite is exposed to the air, and after three days, dries to permanent ink. You can erase it at any time before it dries.
Although Sharpie has said these pencils are not available till September, Office Depot already has them online. At $5 for a pack of two (and a six-pack of erasers), it’s a little more than anyone would pay for a normal pencil, but it’s still reasonably priced.
This is definitely going on my back-to-school shopping list.
