Scientists Unveil Flexible Touchscreen Technology

Flexible touchscreens–talk about music to the ears of iPhone and Kindle designers. Arizona State University scientists unveiled precisely that, early this week. The screens, like just about every other cool piece of technology, were designed with military applications in mind.

The applications for the rest of us seem pretty clear, however, seeing as how touscreens are beginning to penetrate just about every manner of consumer electronics around. E-Ink was the one of the first companies to praise the new technology. “Now that our device can be made flexible, it should also enable larger-sized touch-screens for electronic newspapers, text books, and other large format applications,” the company’s VP of marketing, Sri Peruvemba, told Mobile Marketing News.

Peruvemba also added that, while the military will get first crack at the bendable screens, the technology may enter the consumer market as quickly as 18 months from now.
