Sean Bielat Enters Massachusetts Senate Republican Primary

Sean Bielat, a businessman and former Marine, has entered the Massachusetts race for U.S. Senate as a Republican, according to papers filed with the Federal Election Committee received Wednesday.

Bielat has unsuccessfully tried twice to run for Congress in the Fourth District of Massachusetts. In 2010, he ran against Rep. Barney Frank (D) and lost by ten points — a relatively close margin for the overwhelmingly Democratic district. He refused to concede after the race because he said Frank’s speech was “extremely ungracious.” Bielat ran again in 2012 to challenge Joe Kennedy III (D), but lost by 25 points.

David Bernstein of the Boston Phoenix reported that Bielat took serious steps to run for Congress in 2006 in upstate New York — as a Democrat.
