SEGA to Release Official Mega Drive Mini Console

Hot on the heels of Nintendo’s plan to release its miniature retro console, SEGA is also releasing a modern version of the classic Mega Drive (aka Genesis) to celebrate Sonic’s 25th anniversary. This new console is a lot like the old one, only smaller. But large in your heart.

Coming from AtGames, the new SEGA Mega Drive comes with 80 retro games built-in, including half a dozen Sonic the Hedgehog games naturally. There are also three Mortal Kombat titles, the Golden Axe series, ComixZone, and more that you remember. It comes with an SD card slot that allows you to load new ROMs for expanding your game collection.

If you prefer cartridges, the console accepts them as well. There is also a handheld version, which bundles all the same features, except for a 3.2-inch display and a rechargeable battery. It will arrive in October! Just in time for Christmas.

If you don’t have the patience to wait until October, you can pick up one of AtGames’ earlier Mega Drive emulators over on Amazon now.
