Sony Move Sells 2.5 Million Units in 30 Days
Posted in: playstation, sony, Today's Chili, video gamesThe video game industry–long considered one of the few bright spots in an ailing economy–has stumbled a bit in recent months. As we head toward the holidays, the whole thing has been looking pretty dire.
The news isn’t all bad for the three major consoles, however. Sony has scored a big success with the Move–the company’s motion controller answer to products like the Nintendo Wiimote and Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360.
The $50 device has sold more than 2.5 million units, worldwide, since launching on September 19th. That number includes one million in the US and Canada and 1.5 million in Europe–the controller has yet to launch in Asia.
Sony is reportedly running low on stock of the product. “There’s minimal on-hand inventory in many stores,” the company’s director of hardware marketing John Koller told The LA Times. “We’re basically shipping every unit we can make.”
