Steampunk AIO Computer Is a PC That Looks Old, Which is Apparently Still Exciting [Please Stop]

pimg src=”http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/gizmodo/2008/12/steamsunk.jpg” width=”494″ height=”371″ /Saying that steampunk is played out is almost getting played out itself, but emthey just keep a href=”http://gizmodo.com/5105169/intricate-steampunk-mouse-might-have-gone-a-bit-far-with-the-whole-actual-mouse-spine-thing”making things/a/em. This week we have a another winner: a computer! Covered in brass! With horns! Die. /p pThe screen, as is painfully obvious, is the centerpiece of this mod, which is the first problem. A good Steampunk device usually mixes anachronistic decoration with newer technology, but does so in a visuallymdash;if not conceptuallymdash; convincing way. That’s not what this is. /p pMost of the effort appears to have gone into the rear of the device, which houses a whole PC. There is no doubt in my mind that things like this take a great deal of skill, but the point is that this skill is being devoted to an irritating movement that probably peaked with a Will Smith remake movie. emThey’re making music now, people/em. Please stop (this goes for the a href=”http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/22/steampunk-monitor-mod-is-almost-too-pretty-to-use”enablers/a, too), and start covering stuff with a href=”http://gizmodo.com/tag/wood”wood/a. Or a href=”http://gizmodo.com/tag/leather”leather/a. Anything. Else.
