The Boat People
Posted in: Today's ChiliMy friend, Susan, has a great philosophy of life. On a morning walk, she explained her boat metaphor to me.
Susan waved her hands slightly to imitate a boat moving across a current. Positive people are on a boat that moves forward, despite obstacles, she said. It doesn’t matter how fast they move. Arriving is hardly the point.
What’s key is how engaged people are with their ever-evolving passions, and how happy they are guided by their purpose.
Susan surrounds herself with positive people, fellow sailors of sorts. She has befriended many, acknowledging they are not devoid of problems. Sailors have their fair share. But they know how to keep perspective, and refuse to be daunted by the current.
Positive people only know one direction: onward.
Mahatma Gandhi has this to say for those who want to navigate the current of positivity:
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”
