If you had a big wheel when you were young, you know how amazing it felt to tear out of the driveway and feel like you could make eye contact with a biker and receive recognition. It’s one of the first times ‘going faster’ is up to you, rather than a parent or friend. Of course, our need for speed only gets greater as we age, seeing that we later move between bicycles, cars, and motorcycles.
The thrill of wheels on pavement is always there, and here to smack our nostalgia in the teeth while giving us a new toy to ride around on is the Verrado Electric Drift Trike. This falls into the electric bicycle category, as it is quite literally a tricycle with a Lithium Cobalt Manganese battery motor. This will let you run about 40~45minutes, which translates to around 12 miles. The wheels are covered in PVC, and while they will eventually wear out after several hundred miles, they can be replaced.
This is meant for trike drifting, which is a rapidly growing sport that sounds as fun as my childhood self remembers it being. There will be black, white, red, and silver versions available, and if you’re in a hilly area, you can opt for the non-powered version. As this goes far faster than a big wheel, it’s best that riders be at least 16 years old. None of these come with pedals though, so it will be a long walk back to the top. If you’re interested, this will cost around $500 for a non-powered, or $1,560 for the electric version.
