When shooting pictures, there are plenty of times where it would be much easier to snap the shot while standing somewhere apart from the camera. Whether it’s because the camera is at an odd angle, or you’re needing to constantly adjust your subject, it would be nice to have a remote for your camera. Some newer ones have this functionality built-in. However, if you have an older DSLR, you’re going to need a little extra help.
The Weye Feye (Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s pronounced the same as Wi-Fi, and no, it’s not clever.) attaches to your camera via USB, and creates a Wi-Fi network. You can then connect to this network with your smartphone or tablet up to 80′ away. What’s great is that you can do more than activate the shutter. You’ll be able to watch a live feed of what your camera sees, to make sure that you’ve got a perfect shot. And if you’re worried about lag, the latency is only around 0.2 seconds, which is pretty impressive.
If you don’t like what you’re seeing on your screen, you’re actually going to have access to many of the manual controls of the camera, to tweak things such as ISO aperture and shutter speed. Once you’ve taken a few shots, you can then go back through and see what’s on the camera, to determine whether or not you need to take a few more. The Weye Feye doesn’t come cheap though. You’ll be looking at around $332 when it comes out next month.
