Apple Drops the Ball on iOS 6 Maps
The major story surrounding iOS 6 is the new Maps app that no longer uses Google for the mapping data. This post has a great comparison between iOS, TomTom, OpenStreetMap, Nokia, Bing, and Google Maps so that you can see the differences.
Skitch 2 Released – A Big Step Backwards
I am a huge Evernote fan and when they bought Skitch I was excited to see how they’d integrate the two services. Unfortunately I feel like they have ruined a lot of the things I loved in the original Skitch including the unique and simple method they used to crop or resize images. I don’t recommend upgrading at this point, and because of the complaints they’ve received they made the version 1 software available for anyone that wants to downgrade while they iron some things out.
LastPass Proactively Checking for Leaked Credentials
LastPass announced an opt-out service for existing free and paid subscribers where they will proactively check whether your LastPass email address has been in any recently leaks. Right now they are only looking for the email address tied to your LastPass account, and they are investigating ways they can check for leaks against all of the credentials you are storing with them.
Slashdot and SourceForge Bought by Dice
Dice.com dropped a cool $20 million to get ownership of Slashdot, SourceForge, and Freecode… some of the geekiest websites on the net.
Google Acquires Snapseed Creator
Google scooped up Nik Software who are the creators behind the popular iOS photo-editing app called Snapseed.
Canon Announces the EOS 6D
Canon announced the EOS 6D camera that is due for launch in December, and will be their first full-frame DSLR to have WiFi and GPS built-in. The price will be $2,099.
