Waterproof ContourHD case enables head-mounted video captures under the sea

Look, you’ve always known that you were the next Kelly Slater, but you’ve never had the outlay to hire a professional recording team to capture your rides off of Oahu’s stunning north shore. Thankfully for you, your extreme sporting dreams are about to become a reality courtesy of a $39.99 waterproof case, which has just been released to encase VholdR’s ContourHD and ContourHD1080p helmet cams — which we just so happened to take a look at ourselves earlier this year. Said case can withstand liquids for up to ten meters deep, and just in case you’re in the accessorizing mood, the outfit has also released a handlebar mount, vented helmet mount, and a lens kit to its accessory range. Granted, all of this stuff will be rendered pointless when we start embedding HD cameras into our retinas, but we suppose it’ll do the trick until that fateful day.

Super Team Up: Griffin and Threadless

GriffinThreadless.jpgDoes your iPhone case match your outfit? I mean really match it? It can, now that case-maker Griffin has partnered with clothing co-op Threadless.

The first offering of this team-up is a slim polycarbonate iPhone case featuring one of two original Threadless images: clouds within the thunder and birds of a feather (shown). Both the shirt and the cases are limited runs, so if you love them, you’d better hurry. The cases go for $34.99 each.

More case designs and other accessories will follow from the partnership. At Threadless, the customers are the designers: Designs are submitted by a worldwide community of artists, and one million site members vote on which images will be made into T-shirts.

“I’ve been a fan of Threadless ever since my first visit to their retail store in Chicago,” said Mark McGlon, visual brand coordinator at Griffin Technology. “I saw immediately, from their layout and presentation, that their shirt designs would be a perfect match for our accessories.”

Beamer Makes a Case for Flash on the iPhone

quirky beamer

Quirky’s, erm, quirky approach to product design and marketing seems to be working. The company’s latest crowd-sourced gadget is the Beamer, which is not a German car that turns its owner into a boorish prig but an iPhone case with its own built-in flashlight.

And like its Powercurl cord-winder and Kickster Nano case, the Beamer production line will only be powered up when enough orders have been received — 500 in this case. The Beamer itself is a two-part plastic case with an LED lamp on the back and a recessed silicon switch on the side. Hit the switch once and you get ten seconds of bright light, enough time to snap a photo with the iPhone’s camera. Press it twice, quickly, and the light stays on until you press the switch again.

The case runs off a lithium coin-cell, like many bicycle lights, and should last for around ten hours before it dies. If you want one, sign up now and have your card billed for $32 when production starts.

Pinstriped Cashmere Kindle Case Is So Very English

cashmere kindle

Now that the Kindle has ventured outside its home — the land of cowboys, blue jeans and beef — it seems that it should get a change of clothes. The Amazon-supplied leather jacket may make the e-reader look all cool and James Dean in its native land, but overseas we’re a little more conservative.

So it seems very fitting that the first English Kindle case to reach our inbox is a wool and cashmere pinstripe number, the very essence of the City Gent in protective rectangular form. It costs 22 Pounds Sterling ($36), and with its foam lining works as a protective slip case rather than mimicking a paper book’s cover like the official Kindle uniform. The maker, UK Wrappers, also offers a range of materials and designs, including a couple of tartans for Scottish Kindle owners, and a Paisley-lined number for the Irish.

It’s all very international, although I now feel that my Kindle is a little underdressed here in Spain. What should he wear, I wonder? Suggestions in the comments.

Thermaltake’s brain-melting Level 10 PC chassis gets real, unboxed

Remember that Thermaltake enclosure that blew your mind back in March? Of course — you’re still recovering, after all. Fast forward to today, and that very case — which had a hint of BMW influence, by the way — has morphed into reality, and it’s far and away one of the most fabulous cases we’ve ever seen. Amazingly, the finished product looks awfully similar to the concept, with each compartment boasting its own ventilation. There’s room for pretty much anything you’d ever want (yes, even room for three Blu-ray writers), and of course, enough LEDs are included to light up the average night club. You should also know that the shipping container weighed 66 pounds and the chassis itself is probably larger than your eight year old, so unless you’ve got more square footage than you know what to do with, you’re probably better off viewing the unboxing shots (there in the via link) from afar.

Is this AT&T’s HTC Pure, clad in shimmering magenta?

Is this AT&T's HTC Pure, clad in shimmering purple?

Last month, a leaked and decidedly non-confirmed listing of random phones mentioned something called the HTC Pure. We’ve not heard anything since, but now HTCpedia has what it believes to be two photos of the thing, each one enshrouded in an unattractive case; one silicon, one garish plastic. What’s inside those enclosures is of course largely unknown, but it certainly doesn’t appear to have a slide-out keyboard, does appear to have four buttons on the face, and that’s said to be a 5 megapixel camera on the back. The site goes so far to say that this is destined for AT&T and will be the Touch Diamond2 (nee Warhawk), but if that’s the case HTC has obviously made some tweaks to the design the last time we saw it. We’re not quite ready to say these are anything other than blurry pictures of some random HTC handset, but once we have something — anything — a little more conclusive we’ll be sure to pass it along.

Update: As a few commenters have pointed out, this is the MDA Compact V, currently available in the UK under T-Mobile, which could explain the magenta case. Is this what AT&T is referring to as the Pure? We wouldn’t be surprised.

Instinct HD gear starts turning up at Best Buy

A funny thing happens when a major new handset’s released on a big carrier: matching accessories come along for the ride. Cases, chargers, armbands, screen protectors, you name it — anything to get you to double your spend before you walk out of the door with your multi-hundred-dollar phone. Of course, those accessories frequently aren’t perfectly synced with the phone itself — they ship a few days beforehand or after the fact, so stuff like this is bound to happen. In this particular case, the upcoming Instinct HD is getting some silicone protection ahead of time courtesy of Best Buy, which should go well with those invisibleSHIELDs you picked up a few weeks back. Meanwhile, the phone itself is expected just a handful of days from now, so at least it’s not totally insane to start stocking up on accessories now.

[Thanks, Matt G.]

Is Your iPhone Giving You a Tumor? Maybe Pong Can Help

pongiphonecase.jpg

I admit it, I made a lot of tinfoil-hat jokes when I first heard about the Pong iPhone case. The jury is still out on the effects of cell phone radiation, but if you’re concerned about that new iPhone 3GS giving you Apple-shaped tumors, the Pong is probably perfect for you.

The silicon case has a metal lining on the inside that’s meant to diffuse radiation from your handset. According to Pong, it “chimneys” the energy out of the top of the iPhone. It’s supposed to reduce radiation from the phone by 60 percent–so that other 40 percent is kind of a crap-shoot.

The case is $60 and available now. A BlackBerry version is coming at the end of the year. I got the rundown on the case from a Pong rep; check out my video after the jump.

Mission-style PC casemod easily slides into your La-Z-Boy collection

Jeffrey Stephenson is to case mods what Benjamin Heckendorn is to console mods. There, we said it. After watching the former pump out wood-grained mod after wood-grained mod, Sir Jeff has issued yet another — wait for it — wood-grained mod. The black walnut mission-style side table is actually a full-blown PC in disguise, with a standard ATX mid-tower within that’s equipped with an Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA graphics and dual stage temperature-controlled exhaust fans. He notes that it’ll be available next Spring for those with fine tastes, though we’re sure he’d customize it to fit your living room suite for the right price.

Case-Mate offers $0.99 iPhone recession case… a day after recession ends

In life, you’ll quickly learn that everything is about timing. And thankfully for us Earthlings, Case-Mate seems just 24 hours off with this one. A day after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke declared that this so-called recessions was “very likely over,” the aforesaid accessory maker has popped out an iPhone case for those of us who vehemently disagree. The aptly titled iPhone recession case is quite possibly the greatest thing since sliced bread the AirMail, and at just $0.99 including shipping, we figure you’ll have a tough time finding a better way to protect your cellie. Or waste $0.99, now that we think of it.

[Thanks, Andy]
