Leave it to the gung ho gang at Android and Me to do some clever Googling and discovering Motorola’s web based Android app store, Shop4apps. The store has since been removed / made hidden, but not before we got a good glimpse at the whole shebang. There’s a MyLocker section to check your download history, the ability to re-download and transfer aspps to a new phone, and a special MotoAppstore client for downloading and installing the apps (which unfortunately wasn’t working yet). Frankly, the images aren’t too flattering, so we’re hoping for some further tweaking before it’s official launch. In the meantime, hit up the source link for more pictures.

The CrunchPad may be dead, but with devices like this on the docket forgive us if we’re not shedding any tears. The mystery tablet from earlier this week is the Vega from Innovative Converged Devices, or ICD. Available in 7-, 11-, and 15-inch sizes it’s a simple but beautifully svelte design, and with that Tegra processor should have plenty of muscle. The resistive nature of those screens may be a bit of a bummer for some, but naturally it’ll do everything Android does — though without a GPS sensor we’re guessing Google Navigation is out. The only questions left left now are when, how much, and who will be pumping the bits to its cellular antennae? Those are answers we hope to bring you from Vegas in two months’ time.

If you’re keeping tabs on Mio Technology’s GPS happenings, you’ll be interested to dip into some facts that PC World has uncovered about the company’s upcoming offerings. According to the mag, the next version of the electronics-maker’s MiBuddy satnav unit will dash the underlying Windows CE architecture for Google’s newer and far more suave Android platform. The new device will be pushing into MID territory, boasting a 4.7-inch touchscreen along with a hardware slider keyboard, the ability to browse the internet, and WiFi and Bluetooth onboard. Call us crazy, but it seems possible that devices like dedicated PNDs running Android could easily adapt Google’s new turn-by-turn system as their primary mode of operation. Alternately, you could switch between Mio’s proprietary version and Google’s variation… or they could axe the big G’s altogether, though that awkward situation makes far less sense to us. No word on timing or price just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

This is frankly a pretty cool little feature of Spring Design’s I-swear-I’m-not-Nook-but-oh-the-timing e-reader / Android hybrid, Alex. Browse to whatever web article / Google book / Wikipedia entry you want to enjoy, press the center button, and watch as Alex “prints” the page to the e-reader screen up top for a more comfortable reading experience. We’ll admit we’re a bit surprised to see a working model already — hopefully this is a sign of good things to come sooner rather than later. Video after the break.

Generic form factor? Check. Default Android skin? Check. Sure, that’s nothing exciting, but the real draw of Acer Liquid’s gonna be its large, 800 x 480 resolution screen (the exact size of which we still don’t know) and its 1GHz Snapdragon chipset. Unfortunately for the guys at Pocket-Lint, they didn’t get to play with the Donut-powered handset long enough to really push those two selling points, but on the bright side they did discover a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and some ISO adjustment options, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and what appears to be a 3.5mm headphone jack. Perhaps more importantly, they nabbed some pictures of the thing powered on and in action. Jealous? Yes, yes we are.

Update: We finally have the first images (above) showing Acer’s customized Android UI and social networking integration (after the break) courtesy of HDBlog.it. It not quite the full-blown replacement a la HTC Sense, but they’ve clearly brought a new bag of tricks in an attempt to make the vanilla OS experience Acer-unique.
