Skullcandy intros Decibel Collection headphones for the young, hip, and colorblind

We thought that Skullcandy might not be able to top its Special Edition Metallica Death Magnetic headphones in terms of aesthetic loudness, but we were apparently mistaken. The company’s just launched its vast Decibel (dB) Collection, a wide range of wildly styled, Limited Edition “high performance” cans that take design up to eleven, to say the very least. With customizable lines including Big Slick, Vibe, Dream Team, Lurker, Catfight, Audiophile, and Illustrative, it’s safe to say that Skullcandy will probably have whatever it is you’re looking for in headphones… as long as what you’re looking for is truly insane. Hit the read link to check out the myriad designs.

Klipsch Image S4 impressions

Klipsch has never really been a company to cater to the low-end, but there’s likely never been a time in the outfit’s history to better introduce a lower-end pair of earbuds than right now. The Image headphone line, which started in August of 2007 when the X10s launched at $349, has grown a few members since. Today, we’re talking a look — er, a listen, actually — at the $79 Image S4 in-ear headphones, and while these are far from “cheap,” they’re definitely in the realm of feasibility for anyone considering a set of ‘buds that are marginally more awesome than the stock ones bundled with PMPs these days. Head on past the break for a few impressions.

Cheap Geek: ViewSonic Projector, Sennheiser Headphones, Jabra Bluetooth

ViewSonicPJ258D.jpg

If you’ve traded Comcast and DirecTV for Hulu and Boxee, you might be a cheap geek.

1. What kind of projector can $516 get you? You might be surprised. While the ViewSonic PJ258D originally listed for $1,453, Amazon currently has it for over $900 less. This small-yet-powerful projector weighs only 2.9 pounds, displays 2,000 lumens, and has an attractive contoured design. I love that it has an iPod dock for easy video sharing.

2. Listen up: White earbuds were cool for a while, but now every hipster in Brooklyn is rocking a pair of giant over-ear headphones and bragging about how much better their music sounds. If you want to get in the game, grab an ironic t-shirt and this pair of Sennheiser EH-250 headphones from Buy.com. They’re only $39.98, come with free shipping, and offer Sennheiser’s rich, balanced sound.

3. We all know it’s dangerous to use a cell phone while driving, but sometimes you’ve just got to take that call. The solution is to get the Jabra SP5050 Bluetooth speakerphone. It clips to your visor and offers the excellent sound quality that Jabra is known for. NewEgg has it for $25.99 with free shipping.

Sony rolls out new Bluetooth headphones for in-ear or out

They’re not exactly breaking down any barriers of style or function, but those looking for some straightforward Bluetooth headphones may want to consider one of Sony’s latest offerings, which come in both in-ear and over-the-ear varieties. On the in-ear front, Sony has the DR-BT100CX (pictured after the break), which includes some USB charging capabilities, a promised eight hours of playback time, and three different silicon ear buds to ensure a snug fit. Those looking for something a little less discreet can opt for the DR-BT101CX, which offers the same USB charging, a slightly better 12 hours of playback time and, most notably, a 30mm neodymium driver for a bit more oomph. No word on pricing just yet, but it looks like both should be available any day now — in Europe, at least.

Etymotic hf2 Custom Fit buds bundle ACS’ customized ear-mould service

Eytmotic‘s $180 hf2 earbuds with in-line controller for iPods and iPhones have been around for awhile. In that time, they’ve racked up plenty of gold statues and plaques to backup their claim of delivering “the most accurate, unaltered sound of any earphone or headset today.” Now Etymotic has teamed up with ACS (Advanced Communication Solutions) to deliver silicon sleeves custom-moulded for your inner-ear to ensure a perfect, comfy fit while further isolating you from the ambient noise around you; a trick that allows you to pickup audio detail at lower volumes and thus spare your hearing. Of course, ACS’ 15 minute customization service is available for other buds as well, but offering it within the hf2 Custom Fit bundle as a £90 (about $130) voucher redeemable at any of 300 approved ear impression outlets in the UK is a pretty shrewd move.

Zip-It: Headphone Concept Keeps it Tangle-Free

Yi_earphones1

Wake up Belkin, Griffin and other iAccessory makers — you need to be selling this splendidly innovative concept design from Yanko-er Ji Woong.

The YI headphones not only beat tangles with their built-in zipper which meshes the two cords together — it also makes any old t-shirt look like an ultra-smart zip-up top.

We especially love the zipper handle, which has a twisting tip with which to control the volume, and also a push-in switch that acts as a hold button for that volume control.

So come on, Belkin, Griffin and everyone else. Stop dickering around with FM transmitters (which never work) or in-line remote adapters which put the Shuffle-sized control next to the Shuffle itself and make me some of these. I have $29 with your name on it.

2. Shoot your brains out, so to speak, with the Samsung S860. Buy.com has a sale on a refurbished model; get it for only $59.99. This camera has 8 megapixels, 3X optical zoom, face detection, image stabilization, and it’s pink!

3. Upgrade your music with a pair of Able Planet Clear Harmony headphones. These offer volume control on the cord itself, so you can leave your music player in your pocket. Buy.com has it for $12.99 with free shipping.

Ultimate Ears 700 noise-isolating earphones for your iPod, not Apple’s

Logitech’s high-end Ultimate Ears division just announced these new Ultimate Ears 700 in-ear headphones. Weighing in at 11.6-grams, the dual-armature layout separates the 10Hz to 16.5kHz frequency response into two high-fidelity channels per ear while offering passive noise-isolation of up to 26dB. While the press release touts iPod compatibility in the boisterous headline there doesn’t seem to be anything about these — like Apple’s proprietary in-line remote control (and chip) for the new iPod shuffle — that’s unique to the iPod… other than the price. Available in the US and Europe for $230 sometime this month.

For the rest, click through for our expert urban-hipster review honed by years of knee-jerked responses to trends, ironic facial hair, and a taste for thrift-store clothing. With cred like that, how could we be wrong?
