Android build for upcoming HTC Hero has revamped interface, social networking?

This one’s a bit of a mystery, but it’s certainly a tantalizing one: Haykuro of xdadevelopers fame has posted video of what purports to be the Android build off of HTC’s upcoming Hero device. What’s special about it is a reworked interface, which shows a lot of polish from icons to built-in apps to general interface elements… and maybe just a bit of TouchFLO flair. There are also new features like a login / logout menu for “social networks” in the settings menu. While the device lists the firmware as 1.5, there’s a small possibility that some of this new look and feel could be headed for Android 2.0 “Donut,” or perhaps HTC just feels like it needs to diverge from the pack a bit now that other manufacturers are starting to drop their own Android handsets. DJ Hero announced at last, along with Band Hero for the family and Guitar Hero 5 for the face melters

Activision just confirmed a whole lot of heroes: the long-teased DJ Hero being the most notable among them. Many trivial humans had conjectured what a “Hero”-style DJ controller would look like, and at last we have our first look (above, and there’s another shot after the break). Sure, we have no idea how we’re supposed to play it — where’s the whammy bar, for instance? — but we’re sure once we tape a couple of our mom’s Perry Como records to the sides we’ll start to get the picture. Music genres include “hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance,” and the game will allow turntablists to create “original mixes” of songs. Additionally, Activision is also prepping a family-friendly Band Hero game, and a Guitar Hero 5 followup to its flagship title, with all three new Hero games hitting sometime this fall.

HTC Hero caught flashing some Android in the wild?

Remember that shockingly pink (false color, we presume) Hero that was allegedly part of HTC’s planned Android lineup for 2009? CodeAndroid appears to have nabbed the first in-the-wild shots of the very phone, and it’s got every bit as much “chin” in real life as it did in those fuchsia renders. That could be good or bad news depending on just how strongly you feel about the G1’s unforgettable cosmetics, but also notable here is that we appear to have an honest-to-goodness 3.5mm headphone jack up top — a first for an HTC Android device — and an utter lack of any d-pad. The trackball is certainly gone, so unless there’s some wild touch-sensitive area below the screen, it seems like the touchscreen might be the only way to navigate. How this phone ultimately stacks up against its stablemates when it hits the market later this year remains to be seen, but at a quick glance, we’d say the Magic’s looking more like a beauty queen than ever.
